⚫️ Last week, the crypto community witnessed a big mistake: Paxos, the issuer of $PYUSD stablecoin, accidentally minted 300 trillion tokens (so that amount in dollars would be more than the whole world GDP). The root cause turned out to be quite trivial — decimal miscalculation.
⚫️ In simple terms, "decimals" in crypto usually means a "number of digits past the decimal point": a parameter that determines how many minimum parts one unit of a token can be divided into. If Bitcoin had no decimals at all, its minimum part would be 1 BTC. At a price of ~$111,000, not everyone could buy it. But thanks to decimals, we can operate with the smallest parts.
