EVM, or Ethereum Virtual Machine, is the backbone of the smart contract ecosystem, acting as a decentralized execution engine for Dapps and smart contracts.

At its core, the EVM is a Turing-complete virtual computing engine embedded within smart contract networks. It functions similarly to the Java Virtual Machine, executing bytecode from transactions that modify the network's state.
