I’ve just learned a new word: corrugated.

According to the OALD, it means having the shape of a series of regular folds that look like waves.

I love browsing the dictionary for new words, but these first encounters rarely stick unless you come across the word again and again in different contexts. In a way, our brains tend to retain only the words that are frequent enough. So I highly doubt that I’m gonna remember this one a couple of months from now, unless somehow I get involved in some construction projects :)

#PhraseOfTheDay: to go to the trouble of (doing something)

When you go to the trouble of doing something, it means you make a special effort to do it — usually more than what is expected, and sometimes more than what seems necessary.

Examples:
She went to the trouble of cooking a full dinner, even though we said we weren’t hungry.

If he didn’t care, he wouldn’t have gone to the trouble of writing such a long explanation.

Usage note:
This phrase is more common in spoken discourse. It often carries a tone of surprise or appreciation when someone makes an extra effort.
