I’ve just finished watching β€œA Trip to infinity” on Netflix.

My mind is bended like ♾️ as a result.

So I’ve decided to mess with your head too by sharing this Ted-Ed episode that talks about one of the concepts from the documentary: β€œThe Infinite Hotel”.

If you like this Ted-Ed video, then you should definitely check out that Netflix documentary and be ready for your mind to be blown 🀯

Some of you have been curious about the source of these questions, and when I said β€œpast papers”, some people didn’t buy it. Let me explain it in more detail so everything is crystal clear.

The source
One possible source of IELTS questions is the past papers (and the other is pretest materials). Most past questions get reported, and you can find a collection of those in certain websites/forums.

One Google search away
Now, nobody is predicting these questions before they appear, right? We are merely posting this information after the exam, meaning when students reveal some information about their exam questions, we are then able to search the Google or cross-check the database that we have to find if the questions match. In some cases, they do because it is quite common for IELTS to recycle the questions from past papers. I hope I answered your question.

Easy access
If you want to access some authentic reading materials, google IELTS Reading Actual questions and you will find half a dozen volumes, each containing 5-7 full tests from past exam papers.

Downsides
However, please note that it is usually not very helpful for candidates who may have seen the questions before unless the answers are still fresh in their memories. In most cases, weaker candidates end up making more mistakes trying to remember the correct answers instead of understanding the passage/questions.

Feel free to ask any questions if anything is unclear!

Task 1 #Map

The diagrams below show the site of a school in 2004 and the plan for changes to the school site in 2024.

Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features and make comparisons where relevant.

(A band 9 model answer prepared by an examiner is coming, but see if you can attempt this question on your own).

Most people are asking me to send the video that I shared in my telegram story.

I think it sums up the learning process quite neatly, showing why teaching is the best tool for learning something new!

This pretty much applies to language learning in general as well as lELTS.

Model Answer (prepared by an examiner)

The two diagrams compare the layout of a school as it was in 2004 with a proposed redesigned site for the year 2024. Overall, the main proposed changes involve the addition of a new building, relocation of the current sports field, and creation of a new car park and road. It is anticipated that these changes will enable the school to accommodate an additional 400 students, from the current enrolment of 600 to an expected 1,000 students by 2024.

In 2004, there were two school buildings, which were separated by a path running from the main entrance and car park to the large sports field. There are no plans to change this main entrance or the original park. However, in 2024, a third school building and a second car park will be built on the site of the sports field resulting in a new, smaller sports field being constructed to the south of the second car park. The proposed plan also envisages joining the two original school buildings and connecting them to School Building 3 by means of a shorter path. Finally, a new road will be built from the main entrance of the school to the new, second car park.
