Has it been 15 years already since president Obama took office as the first black president of America??? It feels like it happened just a few years ago, a classic example of “temporal distortion”.
What other historic events do you feel the same way about?

Common pronunciation problem among Uzbek people

Back in 2012/13 I was doing my masters in the states. I had a few American friends obviously, who always complimented my English, but also pointed out to my tendency to mix up the V and W sounds. Once aware of this issue,I actively sought solutions to improve. One video that really helped me see the difference was this EngVid video where Ronnie thoroughly explains the distinction between these two sounds.

In IELTS assessment, consistently mixing up Vs and Ws may not be a major issue, but it could limit your pronunciation score to a maximum of band 7.

to understand the relationship between different pieces of information, leading to a clearer understanding of the whole situation.

Example sentence: “By reviewing all the customer feedback, we were able to connect the dots and improve our product significantly.”

#WritingTask1 Let's talk about this bar chart. Name two elements that are crucial for planning your report.
Two words I was looking for:

Overview and GROUPING

We already know what a clear overview is (and some of you have already done a great job writing your overview statements).

What about grouping? What is the most optimal way (please note that there may be more than one) of grouping this information about domestic chores.

One important lesson to keep in mind is that your overview should reflect your grouping!
Oh, before I forget, our triple niner Oybek is launching his offline IELTS courses at our “Inyaz” branch!

Feel free to come to the placement test this Sunday which will be followed by a free masterclass session by your future IELTS instructor.

Good night!

Model answer

The bar chart compares the average time men and women in Great Britain spend on various domestic tasks each day, expressed in minutes. It is immediately apparent that women in Great Britain spend more time on the majority of household tasks, with men leading only in gardening, pet care, and maintenance.

Females are predominantly responsible for cooking, baking, and washing up, dedicating an average of 74 minutes daily, more than double the time of their male counterparts. They also lead in cleaning and tidying, spending 58 minutes each day, compared to men’s 13 minutes. Childcare activities and clothes-related tasks are similarly skewed, with women allocating 45 and 25 minutes respectively, whereas men spend 20 and a mere 2 minutes on these tasks.

On the other hand, men spend a considerable amount of time on gardening and pet care, averaging 49.5 minutes per day, which surpasses women’s time allocation by over twice. They also spend more time on maintenance and odd jobs, dedicating 26 minutes daily, compared to women’s 9.5 minutes. It’s noteworthy that while men lead in these areas, the gap is not as wide as in the tasks dominated by women.

To such questions I say: work with authentic materials instead of such made-up questions.

If your instructor uses such stupid questions, run 😁

Noto’g’ri tuzilgan T/F/NG ni xususiyatlaridan biri kamida 2 ta, aksariyat xollarda, barcha javoblar to’g’ridek tuyulushidir. Boshqacha qilib aytganda, bunday savollarda har qaysi javobni to’g’riligini “asoslab berish” mumkin bo’pqoladi. Ushbu videoni ko’rgandan…
Guys, relax!

Manga bu savol shaxsiy xabar orqali keldi va odatda bunaqa savollar ko'p kelgani uchun, kanalimda share qildim barchaga manfaatli bo'lsin degan ma'noda. Rostan ham, ko'p IELTS ustozlar authentic savollar tugab qolgani uchunmi, negadir o'zlari ba'zida shunday savollar tuzib ishlatishadi.

Ba'zida ancha taniqli manbaa larda ham shunday kamchiliklarni ko'rish mumkin; Masalan, Macmillan nashriyoti tomonidan chop etilgan "Improve Your IELTS Reading Skills" kitobida ham Afrikadagi qurg'oqchilik haqida huddi shunday T/F/NG savoli berilgan va kandidatlar bunday savollar bilan ishlashi IELTS testniga nisbatan noto'g'ri fikr shakllanishiga olib keladi.

Yuqoridagi savolga qaytadigan bo'lsak, buni boshqa bir kanalda qo'yilganidan xozir xabar topdim. Kanal muallifi bu savolni aynan nima maqsadda kanalga qo'ygani manga qorong'u, lekin agar xazil tariqasida qo'yilgan bo'lsa, mani fikrimcha ommaga javobini ko'rsatish o'rniga, bunday savollar bilan ishlamasliklarini aytish to'g'riroq bo'lar edi.

Asosiysi, mani maqsadim shu bitta savol orqali, IELTS haqidagi miflardan hech bo'masa bittasini bartaraf qilish va Pauline opani oltinga teng maslaxatlarini share qilish edi.
What is your take on these words?
I’ve just come across this motivational line and wanted to share with you all:

“Keep going ahead! There’s a reason why the windshield is bigger than the rearview mirror: what is in front of you is far more important than what’s behind you!”

Thank you for your answers! Most of you have skillfully combined the two sentences in various ways. However, I wanted to specifically address the use of 'with + a participle phrase (sb doing sth)'.

It is mainly used to add descriptive detail, or indicate the manner, reason, condition or time of the action in the main clause.

Here is one of different ways of combining the two sentences from the post above:

McDonald's is the most popular fast food chain in the USA, with more than 85% of Americans visiting it/eating there at least once a year.

As you can see, the structure is particularly useful in IELTS task 1 where candidates are required to add specific details or facts about something more general:

Football was the most frequently played sport, with 75% of the whole class actively participating in it.
