Is graffiti public art, or public nuisance? It depends who you ask. Zachary Crockett tags in where it all started.

Use this reaction πŸ‘ if you want me to share the transcript and a reading passage based on the same topic.

This article about the measles outbreak is a great tool for IELTS students, offering a real-world example to improve their reading skills, learn relevant health vocabulary, and get a feel for how to handle data in Writing Task 1, all while engaging with a current and important topic.

Experiencing racism may physically change your brain

Day 5
#Racism & #Brain

Although racism may not be a prominent issue in Uzbekistan, the broader topic of discrimination against minority groups, including women, disabled individuals, and smaller ethnic communities, remains a critical global concern. By dividing into the topic discussed in this podcast, we will develop a deeper understanding of these global challenges. At the end of the day, IELTS is about being a global citizen!

#GuessTheIDIOM

Can you guess the idiom illustrated in the picture?

Hint: the illustration is related to the origin of the expression in question.

P.s. This has nothing to do with the #FebruaryChallenge.

The idiom depicted in the picture above was laughing stock, which means a person or thing that has become the butt of jokes or is widely made fun of by others.

Example:

β€œAfter tripping over his own feet during the award ceremony, Jason became the laughing stock of his colleagues.”

Origin:
The term β€œstock” in the phrase β€œlaughing stock” originally referred to the stocks used as a form of punishment in medieval times. Stocks were devices made of heavy wood, with holes for securing a person’s feet (and sometimes hands and neck), used to publicly humiliate offenders in a town or village square. The person in the stocks would be subjected to public ridicule, and sometimes people would throw rotten food or other objects at them.

Topic: Gun Ownership

While gun ownership is a highly sensitive topic in the US, it’s not commonly discussed in Uzbekistan. However, a recent Task 2 question reported in Uzb was on this very topic.

Additionally, I’m sharing an article packed with excellent language and expressions that can greatly aid in Task 1 writing, particularly with graph interpretation. If you know someone struggling with Task 1 graphs, do share this resource with them.

As we near the end of the first week of our #FebruaryChallenge, I’ve observed a decline in reactions and shares, which frankly, is a bit disheartening. Your engagement is what fuels this challenge! So, if you’re keen on continuing this journey, let’s hit a target of at least 500 πŸ”₯ reactions and 500 shares!

Topic: Funding Bias in Scientific Research

This is another nuanced and seldom-discussed topic in IELTS.
Finding the right podcast on the subject was really challenging so I had to choose the one that's slightly longer in duration.
And since the ready-made transcript wasn't available, I am working to create one. As soon as the transcript is ready, it will be on its way.

For now, just enjoy the podcast think of an IELTS writing question that speaks to this issue.

P.S. Any volunteers willing to assist with the transcript are welcome!
