If we were to list out the qualities we hope for in the new pope, it will be endless – or perhaps jarringly different from person to person.

But one thing’s for sure: Whoever becomes our new pontiff will have great expectations and burdens placed on his shoulders. As we continue to pray for the Holy Spirit to guide our cardinals to select the right person for this role, let us also pray for the one who will be elected – that God will grant him the courage to embrace this new responsibility placed upon him, and every grace that he needs to lead the Church in this moment of history.

On Thursday, May 8, at 6:06 pm Rome time, the 133 cardinal electors chose the 267th Pope.

We rejoice at the election of Pope Leo XIV as the successor of Saint Peter and Supreme Pontiff of the Catholic Church.
