Moises Caicedo is simply incredible. Deservedly named POTM.
The best midfielder in the world at the moment. He went down injured and after a 2 hour delay played like that in extra time. Crucial to the winner and also got an assist. Running out of words to praise him. Unfortunately suspended next game but Enzo and Lavia should be fine and he gets a deserved rest.
Caicedo registered more successful passes (116), more successful passes into the final third (20) and more successful tackles (3) than any other Chelsea player against Benfica. #CFC #CWC

No club has generated more big chances created than Chelsea (18) so far during the Club World Cup. Enzo Maresca’s Chelsea.

🗣️ Enzo Maresca on Chelsea’s 4-1 win [AET] over Benfica in the Club World Cup round of 16:
🥵𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐛𝐞𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐞𝐝:
“I am very happy because we are in the last eight teams of this fantastic competition.
“As I say, for 85 minutes, we didn’t concede anything and had enough chances to win the game. The team was very good. It was one of our best performances in the last two weeks or the last month.
“The game was very good for 85 minutes but then we have a two-hour break and it’s not the same game because you break the tempo. Two hours inside. We tried to go out and continue to play in the same way, but it’s difficult.
“It’s not random that for 85 minutes, we didn’t concede anything, and then in five minutes [after the restart] we conceded chances.
“You see they score because they need to chase. We were inside and winning, we go back outside and the mentality is different. It was really difficult.”

Chelsea have held talks with the Mayor of London’s office over building a new stadium.
The club met recently with officials at City Hall after Sadiq Khan publicly urged them to speak with his team about whether they wanted to leave Stamford Bridge for Earl’s Court or redevelop their existing home.
Khan’s call came in April after Chelsea chairman Todd Boehly suggested there were divisions between him and co-owners Behdad Eghbali and Jose E Feliciano about where the Premier League side’s future lay.
Hansjorg Wyss, who also holds a minority stake in the club, said after the club’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on May 5 that Earl’s Court would be the “best option we can even think of”.
Chelsea declined to comment on the status of their stadium plans or on any meeting with Khan’s team.

𝐁𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐊𝐈𝐍𝐆: Chelsea have reached an agreement with Brighton & Hove Albion to sign Joao Pedro.
The 23-year-old Brazilian was targeted by Chelsea and Newcastle United but he only wanted to join the west London side.
A deal in excess of £50 million has been struck, while personal terms are in place on a contract until 2032.
Medical checks are being arranged and subject to successful completion, he will become part of Chelsea’s squad contesting the Club World Cup in the U.S.
The move will see them add a versatile forward to an attacking unit that has already been bolstered in the summer window.
