STARTING XI:

Sanchez - 4 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 - 5: First dangerous shot on goal and he has his positioning completely wrong.

Cucurella - 8.5: Didn’t invert today, but was an absolute rock at the back.

Chalobah - 7: Very solid defending and won all of his aerial duels.

Colwill - 7: Did very well at the back and like Chalobah also won all aerial duels. Advanced the ball very well.

Gusto - 7: Quite sloppy at times, but did produce the winning goal. Inverted role doesn’t suit him.

Santos - 7: Good first start. Tackling and duel ability is impressive.

Nkunku - 5.5: Wasn’t really involved and lacked will and passion.

Palmer - 8.5: Trademark goal from him and contributed well to the attack.

Neto - 7.5: Very difficult game for him, given Jota’s unfortunate passing. Crossing and dribbling was very sharp and was unlucky to not contribute to a goal.

Enzo - 7: Good game. Didn’t really stand out, but didn’t put a foot wrong too.

Delap - 5.5: Silly booking, going to miss the next game. Difference between him and Pedro was clear to see.

SUBSTITUTES:

J.Pedro - 8: Looked very confident and fit, considering he was on holiday three days ago and only trained a few times with us.

Madueke - 7.5: Played like he wanted to stay, unlucky to not get a goal

Dewsbury-Hall - N/A

Esseugo - N/A

πŸ—£οΈEnzo Maresca on Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Palmeiras in the Club World Cup quarter-final:

πŸ’™ 𝐎𝐧 𝐏𝐞𝐝𝐫𝐨 𝐍𝐞𝐭𝐨 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐒𝐧𝐠, 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐒𝐧𝐠 𝐨𝐟 𝐑𝐒𝐬 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐞 & 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐫𝐒𝐨𝐭 𝐃𝐒𝐨𝐠𝐨 π‰π¨ππš:

β€œWe spoke with Pedro yesterday, this morning and this afternoon and it was completely his personal decision whether to play or not to play.

β€œHe made a fantastic effort to play this game, to be with his team-mates, and we really appreciate what he has done.

β€œI just said to the players that this win is especially for him because we know how close he was [with Jota] and the effort that he has done.

β€œSo no doubt that we really appreciate what he decided in the end.”

🀝 𝐎𝐧 𝐭𝐑𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐦𝐞:

β€œPersonally, I think in the first half we were in control of the game. We didn’t concede anything.

β€œWe scored the goal and we could have scored some more goals and then they were better than us and they scored.

β€œThe game changed a bit, the dynamic changed, but then I think in the last 20 to 25 minutes we were in control again and I think we deserved to win the game without being lucky.”

🧠 𝐎𝐧 π‚π‘πžπ₯π¬πžπšβ€™π¬ 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐝 𝐠𝐨𝐚π₯ 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐒𝐧𝐠 𝐟𝐫𝐨𝐦 𝐚 𝐬𝐑𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐫:

β€œSince we started this competition, we have a new structure in corners. The reason why is because we are always looking to improve things and offensively during the Premier League, I think we need to improve things.

β€œSo since the Club World Cup started, we have a new structure. Most of the time we try to play short, but also we have the long option.”

On Andrey Santos replacing Reece James in the warm up:

β€œReece felt something during the warm-up. We think it’s tightness and we prefer not to take any risks with him.”
