Even though it had been clear since around Christmas that Delap would leave Ipswich, people say he acted very professionally. He even won the players’ player of the year award, which shows he didn’t create any trouble in the team.

Ipswich are keen to sign young striker Marc Guiu on loan as a sort of replacement for Delap, but those are regarded as separate deals. Guiu’s move is not done yet.

There are four things I like about this Delap guy.

1. His mentality to brawl and physically fight intelligently and with emotional control is a kin to what Gyokeres does. A little intelligent and almost similar to Diego Costa, but definitely more intelligent than Nico who allows emotions to reign on him.

2. His shot power. He is at times as wasteful as Nico with chances, but his shots power and how he takes them is miles better than Nico.

3. He is built for aerial dominance. We all agree Gyokeres is a better finisher with his feet but aerially not so good. This guy has the physique and the will to go for aerial and he does it. This is something he can be perfect in, in the next one or two years.

4. His mental fortitude. He talks about winning titles and understanding the responsibility that comes with our badge. He has also not shied away from the number 9 myth. This shows his mental determination to succeed.

The difference between Gyokeres and this guy is that Gyokeres finishing is already elite. But they already have an almost similar gaming style. Now he just needs to perfect his.
