☃Cold Tests :

💫Done by three methods :

1⃣regular carbon dioxide (CO 2 )
2⃣ lce (dry ice)
3⃣ Refrigerant CO ice requires special equipment
Refrigerant in a spray can is more convenient

🔺Tooth isolated with cotton rolls and dried
🔺ice stick or large cotton pellet saturated with refrigerant is applied

Heat test

Heat is not used routinely but is helpful when the major symptom is heat sensitivity, and the patient can not identify the offending tooth .

🌸Done by :

🔥 Rotate a dry rubber prophy cup
🔥 Apply hot water.
🔥 Gutta-percha heated in a flame
( after coating the surface of the crown with petroleum jelly )
🔥 Flame-heated instrument
( difficult to control, and its use is best avoided )
Battery-powered devices ( better controlled )
