What is career progression framework levels in Industrial design?

Junior Designers support senior designers in various tasks, by creating models, conducting research, and assisting in the design process.

Designers (Specialists) are responsible for conceptualizing and developing designs for manufactured products, ensuring functionality, aesthetics, and user experience.

Senior Designers lead projects and supervise juniors. They are instrumental in making critical design decisions and are involved in the strategic aspects of product development.

Design Managers are managing the design process from concept to completion. They ensure that all products meet the desired quality and are aligned with the brand's vision and market trends.

Creative Directors are responsible for the overall design strategy. They lead the creative team, set design standards, and drive innovation to maintain a competitive edge in the market.

"Hands-on" design work will be progressively reduced by entering the next position.

К сожалению, в компаниях с низким уровнем понимания дизайна, часто путают функции промышленного дизайнера, инженера, технолога и менеджера производства, объединяя их в одну позицию. Это приводит к нелепым описаниям вакансий, где от соискателя требуют несвойственных дизайнеру навыков.

Фокус промышленного дизайнера:
В действительности, промышленный дизайнер фокусируется на исследованиях, эстетике, бренд-стратегии, пользовательском опыте, функциональности и производительности. С ростом карьеры задачи расширяются до управления дизайн-процессами и командами, но не переходят в сферу инжиниринга, разработки или производства.

Промышленный дизайнер vs. инженер:
Дизайнер работает с человеческим фактором и сенсорной коммуникацией. Погружение в конструкторские и технологические процессы ослабляет его компетенции в других областях. Дизайнеру необходимо понимать основы производства и конструирования, но он не должен быть "инженером с чувством прекрасного".

Развитие начинающего дизайнера:
У начинающего специалиста (junior designer) будут пробелы в знаниях, зависящие от его образования и опыта стажировок. Ожидается, что за 2-3 года эти пробелы будут восполнены, и он перейдет на уровень специалиста. Но это возможно только при поддержке ведущего специалиста (senior designer). Самостоятельно восполнить эти пробелы сложно.
