TOMORROW FEB 25:
Hong Kong - Ensembl: An Ethereum-based platform for decentralised organising of artistic production
This project seeks to implement a DAO to reflect upon questions of value, stake, roles, work, collectivity, and sharing in an interdisciplinary context of contemporary music-making.
- Ensembl seeks to ask the questions:
How should value be shared and revenue be distributed in complex collaborative projects?
- How do we define stakeholders and objects, and how value is attributed?
- How do we seed an ecosystem with resources without dictating its structure?

@Amateur Cities and the @Institute of Network Cultures present this cooperative future-thinking effort from the @MoneyLab network. We live in a economic system that is global, competitive, and centered around the rational and egoistic vision of the homo economicus. How we can embrace different values focusing on locality, cooperation, and caring?

MoneyLab Berlin: March 26-28, 2021
DisCO is one of the participants of MoneyLab Berlin an encounter that seeks to shine a light on emerging communities that are starting to organize themselves around sustainable finance, inclusive tech, community-based currencies and progressive monetary systems.
Now for the first time in Berlin, the 11th edition of MoneyLab aims at creating space for utopias, experiments and radical ideas around an economy for the people and for the planet. Over the course of this event we will present creative coping strategies, answers to the problems of data capitalism, platform monopolies and online surveillance, as well as modes of resistance.
MoneyLab Berlin will present a wide range of livestream talks, participatory online formats, workshops and, if official pandemic regulations will allow, a workshop circuit for participants based in Berlin.

1. PUT YOUR EFFORT WHERE
YOUR HEART IS: VALUES-BASED
ACCOUNTABILITY
Most companies & coops orient their production toward profit and meeting market demands. In DisCOs, production is explicitly guided by need, social and environmental priorities. This is the heart of a DisCO’s values and it is embedded in each DisCOs legal statutes.

Introduction to Economic Networks by @bhaugen
“There is growing consensus that capitalism is unsustainable and that something simply must change. It is not hard to point to the various reasons for this critique; from growing fears about the status quo’s inability to tackle climate change, to rising inequality on a global level, to the continual failure to achieve acceptable living standards in the Global South, and to the pressure of an insurmountable wealth gap between the elites and the working classes in advanced economies."

4. REBALANCING THE SCALE: RETHINKING GLOBAL/LOCAL ECONOMICS
Corporations extract resources as if they were infinitely abundant, while restricting immaterial flows of knowledge, usually reproducible at marginal cost, through intellectual property laws and patents. Conversely, DisCOs support and provide a business model for the Design Global, Manufacture Local template. DisCOs foster explicit attention to environmental justice and the various forms that enclosure can take, in the so-called new industrial revolution.

5. CAREWORK IS THE CORE
Care and affective work are essential in DisCOs and are supported through established mutual support structures. We establish a peer-to-peer mentorship, which is horizontal and reciprocal. Emphasis is placed upon openly expressing observations and criticisms about the workings of the group and also sharing individual and collective aspirations, preoccupations and humor. This makes space for stronger interpersonal bonds and better trust-based communication, employing healthier and more emancipatory conflict-resolution tools.
