As a physician, I’m extremely alarmed that many US and international baby formulas list sucrose—plain sugar—as a primary ingredient, many even blend in chemically-processed seed oils (e.g., canola, soybean) extracted using neurotoxic hexane.
Medical literature shows that limiting sugar in the first 1,000 days of life can significantly boost IQ—one cohort found every 15 g/day of maternal sucrose linked to a −1.5 point drop in child KBIT non-verbal scores, with early childhood sugar intake linked to a −2.4 point drop in verbal IQ.
Hexane, a neurotoxic solvent classified as a hazardous air pollutant, is routinely used in processing these oils—its residues are linked to nerve damage, endocrine disruption, and developmental toxicity.
I am calling upon @ SecKennedy, @ HHSGov, and the @ FDA to conduct a comprehensive review of infant formulas and to ban added sucrose and hexane-extracted seed oils. If a ban is not feasible, I urge that clear labeling be mandated so that consumers are fully informed about these harmful ingredients when making choices for their children’s health.
Our children deserve clean, science-backed nutrition.

Bottom line: Scientific evidence shows added sucrose and solvent-extracted hexane seed oils are detrimental to infant brain, behavior, and health. We must remove these from formulas now.
