EHPSA 6th Year Anniversary and Presidential Inauguration

Saying goodbye is never easy.

It feels like just yesterday, January 2021, when I received the invitation to join EHPSA. From that moment on, not a week has passed without hashtag#EHPSA being in my thoughts. For the past four years, EHPSA has been an integral part of my life and was among my few top priorities.

I've had the honor of serving the Ethiopian Health Profession Students Association in various capacities: EHPSA Hawassa Branch Training Director, EHPSA Hawassa President, National Delegate President, and finally, National President. Each role provided invaluable opportunities for service, learning, and growth, allowing me to connect with energetic and inspiring individuals.

The journey was challenging. There were moments of tears, stress, and disappointment, times when I questioned my ability to continue. Yet, here we stand, celebrating 6 years of dedication. Every sacrifice and every effort has been validated by the tangible impact we've made on countless lives.

Now, it's time to pass the torch to a new generation of leaders, a team ready and fit to elevate EHPSA to even greater heights. I consider it a privilege to have worked alongside remarkable individuals like Dr. Eyerusalem Getahun, Rediet Feleke , Bereket Agumas Kegne, Natoli Sirak Anteneh Nurlign, and many others.

Dr. Eyerusalem Getahun, we are honored to welcome you as our new National President. I extend my sincere wishes for a successful and fulfilling journey to you and your exceptional team. I have faith in your leadership and the potential of the entire EHPSA community.

It was emotional to see delegates from more than 10 Universities and different parts of the country united to celebrate our victories and share the vision.

My heartfelt gratitude goes out to the dedicated Organizing team, the tireless Volunteers, all EHPSA Leaders, Ethiopian Higher Education Institutions Student's Union, Federal Ministry of Health Ethiopia Assegid Samuel Aron Kamil DAKA MEDIA, hashtag#Spanish Cooperation, Daamat Hotel, and our guests and keynote speakers.

OFFICIAL STATEMENT

The Ethiopian Health Profession Students Association (EHPSA)

Expresses deep concern over the prolonged and unaddressed challenges facing health professionals, interns, and students across Ethiopia.


EHPSA calls upon all responsible bodies—including the government, the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission (EHRC), the Ethiopian Health Professionals Movement (EHPM), the Ethiopian Health Professionals Association (EHPA), and other stakeholders—to engage in immediate, open, and constructive dialogue.

We urgently demand:
1. The release of all detained students, interns, and health professionals.
2. Swift and concrete action to address the legitimate grievances of health workers, ensuring their voices are heard and respected.
3. Protection of the fundamental rights of all healthcare professionals to advocate for their profession, their patients, and systemic improvements without fear of retaliation.

This is a pivotal moment for Ethiopia’s healthcare system. The future of our nation’s health depends on fairness, dialogue, and meaningful reform.
