The Nights of Dhul-Hijjah

How do we enter these days?

It was narrated from Ibn Abbas that he said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these days. (Meaning the ten days.) They said: O Messenger of Allah, not even jihad in the cause of Allah? He said: Not even jihad in the cause of Allah; except for a man who goes out with himself and his wealth and then does not return from that with anything.

And righteous deeds includes all various types of worship; from fasting, prayer, Hajj, remembrance and glorification of Allah Almighty, reciting the Quran, spending in charitable causes, etc.

What is confirmed in these days:

1. Fasting except the tenth day of them.
It was narrated from some of the wives of the ﷺ that she said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to fast the ninth of Dhul-Hijjah, especially fasting the Day of Arafah, which expiates two years.

2- Hajj, which is the best thing done in the ten days, and the Messenger ﷺ said: An accepted Hajj has no reward but Paradise.

3- Sacrifice, which is a confirmed Sunnah. Whoever wants to sacrifice should refrain from cutting his hair or nails from the beginning of the month of Dhul-Hijjah until he slaughters.

4- Saying dhikr frequently.
The description of it is as follows: Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah. Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, wa lillaahil Hamd.

“A tourist planning a trip does so carefully — researching every landmark and arranging their visits so that nothing is missed, sometimes even out of fear of being reproached: ‘How could you travel and not visit such-and-such a place?’
So what then about someone embarking on the pilgrimage (Hajj)?
Their journey is an act of worship. They might miss a pillar or an obligatory act of Hajj, or even fall into a prohibited action without realising it.
Is it not more appropriate for them to learn, prepare, and understand what is required of them, so they may perform their Hajj as Allah has commanded?
