☘️ Agree / Disagree

Q: Some people say that all popular TV programmes should aim to educate viewers about important social issues. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?

💡 Answer:

It is widely discussed that all well-known television shows should attempt to raise public awareness about social concerns. In my opinion, such initiatives by well-known entertainment shows are necessary. The main reason for my viewpoint is that the general public extensively watches all popular entertainment programmes. Therefore, by communicating a social message, they may educate people about it. In the forthcoming paragraphs, I shall explain my point of view.

These days, entertainment shows are popular among all ages and genders. Suppose TV shows focus on teaching people about social concerns in their communities. Then it's without a doubt that it will reach the masses and subliminally inform and help people become more conscious of the country's problems. Moreover, these messages raise awareness of social concerns such as rising crime, environmental difficulties, and many others that occur on a daily basis and pose possible hazards and threats to people's lives. Hence it allows people to defend themselves and enhance their quality of life.

Another aspect to consider is that there aren't enough mediums for individuals to learn about the concerns. Because the publications that usually cover these topics, such as newspapers and magazines, are not regularly read by the general public, especially young people. The best method to reach out to them and pass on information, whether directly or indirectly, is through entertainment programmes. Even if a portion of the show's time is devoted to educational programming, this would have a ripple effect on society at large.

In a way, it might also be true that such inclusion would jeopardize the essence of the programs. However, program directors' creativity can assist in delivering the social message while still protecting the program's core in a unique way.

To conclude, popular entertainment programmes are the most successful means of reaching and influencing the public. Hence inclusion of social awareness segments is a laudable initiative from the program owner.

▶️ Tips to Improve Your Writing Skills

📌 Make writing a daily habit!
Of course, practice makes perfect. Make a daily plan, even if it's just a paragraph. Comparing language learning to sports is like learning how to become a professional soccer player after one or two tries and top two scores. Funny, huh?)

📌 Read, read and read more!
Many things are best learned through examples. You will learn how to perform multiple styles, develop your own style, and if necessary, "make your own style" of your styles.

📌 In short 🙂
Try not to use complex and long words in your writing. They often confuse the reader and make them less interested in what you have to say. Keep your sentences short. Never use filler words like "very", "really", "just".

📌 Don't forget to edit well!
Errors distract the reader from the content of your text. Too much editing. Error editing is possible with online editors like Grammarly.

📌 Develop a clear message! Limit unnecessary words in the text that do not correspond to the content of the text. Check out what he has to say!

📌 Log in and write! Sometimes the hardest step in the process is sitting down and helping. At this point, you should have a clear plan of what you want to say and a general idea of how you want to say it. It can be scary, but remember, the hard work is now over!

☘️Pie chart

Q: The pie charts below compare water usage in San Diego, California and the rest of the world.

💡 Answer:

The pie charts give information about the water used for residential, industrial and agricultural purposes in San Diego County, California, and the world as a whole.

It is noticeable that more water is consumed by homes than by industry or agriculture in the two American regions. By contrast, agriculture accounts for the vast majority of water used worldwide.

In San Diego County and California State, residential water consumption accounts for 60% and 39% of total water usage. By contrast, a mere 8% of the water used globally goes to homes. The opposite trend can be seen when we look at water consumption for agriculture. This accounts for a massive 69% of global water use, but only 17% and 28% of water usage in San Diego and California respectively.

Such dramatic differences are not seen when we compare the figures for industrial water use. The same proportion of water (23%) is used by industry in San Diego and worldwide, while the figure for California is 10% higher, at 33%.

☘️ Two-Part Question

Q: Despite the increased access to education, a significant number of people cannot read or write. What are the disadvantages and what action should the government take?

💡 Answer:

The ability to read and write is considered by many as a basic human right. Nevertheless, all too often, we see that the ability to read and write is not possible for a large proportion of the world's population. This is a serious problem in today's world of the knowledge economy. If we want to ensure growth, we must equip our citizens with the tools they need.

There are many consequences of illiteracy. The most obvious is limited access to information. Reading is the most efficient way to obtain information for personal or professional development and advancement. An illiterate person is unable to reach his or her full potential. The second consequence is a lack of understanding
of the world. Illiterate people have no way to understand the news they hear on the radio or television. The third consequence is reduced self-esteem. An inability to read and write can lead to feelings of inadequacy and low self-esteem. Finally, illiteracy impairs a person's ability to contribute to society. A person who can't
read or write is unable to fully participate in society. A person who lacks the ability to read and write is at a great disadvantage in a literate society.

To solve the problem, governments around the world must take action. The most crucial thing to remember is that there is no one-size-fits-all fix. Each country must come up with its own solutions for the problem. The good news is that there are many potential solutions. One possible solution is to offer more scholarships and financial support for students. Another possible solution is to invest in education. This could include building more schools or providing more training for teachers. The important thing is that governments should act now
to solve the problem.

In conclusion, the inability to read and write is a serious problem. It impairs a person's ability to learn, grow and contribute to society. This is a problem that no country can afford to ignore.

🔔 What Not to Do!

🔗 Don`t Learn BIG WORDS

I’ve been told by some professors at my university that the more big words you use in your writing and speaking, the higher band score you’ll get. Time invested in learning complicated terms and phrases will pay off you’ll get a good IELTS score and a round of applause from the examiner.

Tempting, isn’t it? But it’s not the best approach.

Using big words and complicated terms don’t show that you have a wide range of vocabulary because they are very difficult to use naturally. Instead of applause, you’re more likely to see the examiner rolling his eyes or squinting in confusion.

I also figured out that the methods I was using to improve my lexical resource -- sorry! -- my vocabulary, were all wrong. I learned this lesson the hard way working with an IELTS expert.

Don’t try to stuff your brain full of words that are as rare and obscure as unicorns. Examiners won’t be impressed. They’ll see right through you and mark you down because your precious big words are unnatural.

The real vocabulary to learn. So, what’s the right way to you improve your vocabulary and sound like a native speaker?

What works for me now is learning vocabulary by topic. For example, if you want to talk about technology, choose words that people often use: gadget, device, innovation, latest, etc. By doing this, not only can you flexibly discuss specific situations but you can also more easily remember the vocabulary list. I'm sure your score will improve a lot and you’ll feel more confident taking the test!

You made a list of vocabulary divided into themes and topics. Good start. But to learn all of them looks like an unscalable mountain. I found a very useful tip on the web about this: You learn/memorize the word first, recite it, then leave it there for some time. After a while, test yourself to see how much you can remember. If you happen to forget something, repeat the process. The amount of information input to your brain will gradually accumulate over time.

But don’t fool yourself! Knowing a word is very different from knowing how to use it naturally and accurately. Don’t just learn verbatim from your vocabulary lists. Try to use them on a daily basis to get familiar with the expressions. Make sure those words will march through your mind and out your mouth even though you’re shaking with fear on the test. Then you are sure to earn that richly deserved standing ovation from the examiner!

P.S: Good luck on your test! Guys, Keep active in Reactions🫂

☘️ Bar chart

Q: The charts below show the performance of a bus company in terms of punctuality, both actual and target (what actually happened compared to what the company was trying to achieve), and the number of complaints and passengers.

💡 Answer:

The first chart shows the actual and target percentage of buses, from a particular bus company, that arrived at the destination on time, between 1999 and 2003. Meanwhile, the second chart shows how many complaints were made during the same period.

It is clear that while the expected target of buses arriving on time decreased over the years, there was no clear pattern in the percentage of buses that actually arrived on time. Additionally, the number of complaints from their passengers increased throughout the period.

In 1999, the company’s target of buses arriving on time stood at 86%, which was 1% higher than what was actually achieved. Although the target remained unchanged one year later, the percentage of on-time arrivals dropped by nearly 3%. By 2003, this company had reduced its target of on-time arrivals to just over 84%, while the actual figure had witnessed considerable growth to about 85%.

Starting at approximately 7% of total passengers in 1999, the number of complaints made by passengers rose significantly before experiencing a slight decline to just over 8% in 2001. This figure then grew considerably two years later, with about 12% of passengers complaining in the last year.

🤫 Confidence Climb

Self-doubt means you don’t believe you can get the score you want. IELTS is a staircase to the top of a mountain.

Overconfidence means you believe you can get the score you want even though your English is not good enough. You think you’re already on top of the mountain - but you’re not.

Confidence means you know that it is possible to get the score you want if you work hard. It will be hard. It will take time. But you can do it if you take it step by step.

➡️ To deal with self-doubt try:

1. Focusing on what you can do - can you write topic sentences?
2. Do the same activity over and over until you are good at it.
3. Watching a video on youtube about ‘Growth Mind-set’ or ‘Grit.’
4. Don’t measure yourself by where you were yesterday. You won’t grow an inch in a day.
5. Look back at your English work from years ago - then you’ll see the growth.
6. Change your routine - work late at night, drink/don’t drink coffee, work alone/in public, work naked, do new activities - change it up!
7. Relax with English - listen to a song, read a comic, find some memes on instagram. Make English fun again - not an enemy for a minute.

➡️ To deal with overconfidence try:

1. Doing a practice test.
2. Asking someone you trust about your English
3. Doing a google voice search - can google understand you?
4. Reading something from an English newspaper Listening to a Ted Talk
5. Doing a timed writing test and comparing with a sample answer
