Not even 6 hours into his papacy and he's already a commie. Way to go!

Pope Leo XIV came out to greet the faithful after his election with a cross bearing the relics of several Augustinians. Among them was that of the Spanish martyr Anselmo Polanco, bishop of Teruel, murdered by the Reds in 1939.

He was a Mathematics professor, had just been accepted in Harvard's Law School, and gave it all up go serve those in need in a remote, faraway land.

I always feared that an American pope would have that disgusting accent most Americans are known for. The accent that says "I didn't even bother trying to learn how you sound, you should be grateful that I'm not speaking English."

Instead, I watched him speaking live in italian, spanish and latin and I saw a man who bothered to learn all those languages.

This man will have his defects, but I would like to ask you guys to allow yourselves to be positive. None of the things I said means anything theologically or practically. But at least we have a man who bothered going through discomfort for the greater glory of God.

Another thing worthy of noticing about Pope Leo is that he was a bishop of Peru for a long time, and most things we hear about him is how he was conservative in his teachings and how he even (I haven't seen this personally) celebrated the Traditional Mass.

Latin America is a hotbed for Liberation Theology. Especially in the very remote regions, hence why the whole Amazon Synod was a freak show. Clergy his age are among the main proponents of such ideas even today.

The very fact that we don't hear anything about him being connected to these people is something interesting in itself and worthy of admiration.

I hardly doubt he will be the "based gigachad pope" most people wish for - and personally I think we won't have one of these in a veeery long time, if ever -, but I will allow myself to be hopeful and to trust God in His choice of a shepherd for us.
