TSG Hoffenheim v RB Leipzig - Bundesliga Photo by Alex Grimm/Getty Images One more cut to make from a preliminary squad of 27... Germany men’s national team head coach Julian Nagelsmann has announced a 27-man preliminary squad to take to EURO 2024 — but with only 26 spots, that means one man will still be left out.Sport Bild has a guess as to who that might be, and the answer might surprise you. Via @iMiaSanMia:The one player that will be left out of the final 26-man squad for the Euros will most likely be either Maximilian Beier or Robin Koch [@BILD]Why a surprise? There are already four goalkeepers on the list: Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, FC Barcelona’s Marc-André ter Stegen, Hoffenheim’s Oliver Baumann, and Stuttgart’s Bayern loanee Alexander Nübel. If it’s one of Beier or Koch, then all four keepers would make the cut — a greater number than might be necessary.Beier, a Hoffenheim forward, is in a slightly crowded attacking group where there are four other players for two positions: Bayern’s Thomas Müller and Stuttgart’s Deniz Undav as the No. 10, and Borussia Dortmund’s Niclas Füllkrug and Arsenal FC’s Kai Havertz as the No. 9. Eintracht Frankfurt’s Koch, meanwhile, is one of only four nominal center-backs on the list: along with presumptive starters Jonathan Tah (Bayer Leverkusen) and Antonio Rüdiger (Real Madrid), and Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck. Stuttgart defender Waldemar Anton, however, can also play in the role.

It sure looks like it.The veto power “rule” at Bayern Munich is wreaking havoc. What players could exit if Tuchel comes back. Why in the world did the DFB opt to release its roster in such a haphazard manner?Speaking of the German national team roster, let’s talk about that roster drop. Did Julian Nagelsmann get it right?Song of the Week: “Natural One” by The Folk ImplosionI have been on a “forgotten tunes” from the 90s kick lately and that led me to this song that I had not thought about in a long time — “Natural One” by The Folk Implosion. Like a bad college relationship, the love affair between Bayern Munich and Thomas Tuchel once again appears to be “off” just hours after things appeared to be hot and heavy between the two sides. So, now what?Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk laid out some options: WHO is the next candidate, Bayern will call now for the manager Job?❇️ The Board discussed already on monday the Option Roberto De Zerbi (Brighton) again. Bayern know that the Italien has a release clause of €12 Mio❇️ Max Eberl had already a talk with Hansi Flick, before the Talks with Tuchel. But also the Manager Job at Barcelona could be free again, if Xavi leaves the club in the summerHow many more times can Flick’s name be tossed in — and then out — of consideration before he also realized Bayern Munich has too many cooks in the front office kitchen? At this point, fans might as well engage in a trial-by-combat to figure this mess out. Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s arduous hiring process for its head coaching position? FC Bayern München Training Session Photo by T. Kilian/FC Bayern via Getty Images It’s time to move, it’s time to get goin’... According to a report from Süddeutsche Zeitung (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Bayern Munich’s last attempt to convince Thomas Tuchel to stay flamed out on Thursday night: Max Eberl and Christoph Freund made massive efforts to keep Thomas Tuchel at the club, but ultimately lacked support from the very top. Tuchel rejected Bayern’s offer on Wednesday evening. On Thursday the club tried to change his mind with a few concessions, but that didn’t convince him. Eberl and Freund had promised Tuchel a new 3-year contract, but that did not reflect in the concrete papers that were presented to him on Wednesday. Tuchel had the impression that the big bosses sent Eberl and Freund to negotiate with him, but didn’t give them enough power to act.As yet another failure to secure a coaching candidate festers, the washing of the hands regarding Tuchel has begun. Per the report, Eberl and Freund have implied that Tuchel’s sacking was not their decision. In addition, the report seems to attempt to throw a little shade on the powers-that-be who ultimately made the call to fire Tuchel: Eberl and Freund were not involved in the decision to part ways with Tuchel in February. In this respect, they could have started again with the coach in the coming transfer summer without any burdens. However, the club’s big bosses, who made the decision, had trouble admitting their mistake in retrospect. If there is anything that Bayern Munich’s supervisory board likes, it is finger-pointing and passing the buck on responsibility for big decisions...surely, that will go over well. Anyway, Bayern Munich also attempted to convince Tuchel to stay on one-year, lame duck deal, but the 50-year-old rejected the offer: The supervisory board was in favour of continuing with Tuchel only for one year. Tuchel did not want that. BFW AnalysisClearly, Tuchel made his power play (which was evident with some of the stories that had dropped) and could not get everything that he wanted to stay. However it happened — and whoever is responsible for it happening — it does not matter much. The club needs a new coach and must move on to realistic candidates. With the season ending on Saturday, the planning for 2024/25 will begin shortly thereafter. Every day the team is without a coach, it a day lost of progress and a wasted opportunity to turn the page on a very unsuccessful era under Tuchel at Bayern Munich. Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s arduous hiring process for its head coaching position? FC Bayern München v VfL Wolfsburg - Bundesliga Photo by Harry Langer/DeFodi Images via Getty Images After this, the ship will need to steer itself. Not much left to talk about as far as this season is concerned. Bayern Munich face Hoffenheim with 2nd place on the line, but you’ll struggle to find a fan who cares about that. With the furor surrounding the club’s coaching search (or circus) and enough injuries to fill a hospital, the football being played on the pitch is the least of people’s concerns right now. Still, the show goes on. What kind of lineup can we expect from Tuchel’s final game in charge? Team newsIt’s not looking good. The injury list is a long one:Harry Kane has back problems and is being seen by his private doctor. No chance of him playing. Leroy Sane and Jamal Musiala will both miss the game due to undisclosed injuries.Kim Min-jae is still out after the knock he suffered last weekend. Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Raphael Guerreiro are all still injured. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting has the flu and won’t be available. Sacha Boey misses out due to personal reasons. So there you have it. Assuming that’s the gist of it, Thomas Tuchel won’t have much choice but to start who he has available. That likely means putting Mathys Tel up top, supported by Thomas Muller in attacking midfield, flanked by Bryan Zaragoza and Lovro Zvonarek on the wings. Leon Goretzka and Aleksandar Pavlovic are the likely candidates to start in the center, with the defense comprising of Alphonso Davies and Joshua Kimmich at left and right fullback respectively, as well as Dayot Upamecano and Matthijs de Ligt in the center. This game could be Davies’ last in a Bayern shirt, if rumors are to be believed. With Manuel Neuer rounding out the XI, here’s what it could look like: Media Looking for a more in-depth preview of the game? Check out our preview podcast! Listen to it below or on Spotify. Whether it was good or bad is in the eye of the beholder... As we found out earlier today, Thomas Tuchel will be coaching his final match at Bayern Munich on Saturday against Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga. While the manager does not seem like the type for a grand send-off, it looks like there will barely be any players around to wish him bon voyage anyway. “Harry (Kane) is receiving treatment from his personal doctor. He cannot travel. He was already at the limit in Madrid. He had a complete blockade in his back, it’s gotten worse and bothers him in everyday movements. Leroy (Sané) and Jamal (Musiala) won’t be in the squad. (Eric Maxim) Choupo(-Moting) has the flu, won’t be available. Kim (Min-jae) is injured, not in the squad. Sacha Boey is definitely not in the squad, for private, sad reasons. Rapha Guerreiro and Serge Gnabry are injured. Kingsley Coman is trying everything to be at the Euros, but won’t be in the squad tomorrow,” Tuchel said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).One player who will be available — and who also appears to be on of Tuchel’s current favorite players on the the squad — is tremendous rookie midfielder Aleksandar Pavlović.“Sensational. It’s a pleasure to watch the young lad play. We’ve always brought in players from the reserves. From the very first training session, we saw something special in him. He was very confident with the way he played. He’s also incredibly nice and always comes to training with a big smile on his face,” said Tuchel. “It’s a pleasure to see his development. He deserves the greatest praise of all. Everything was absolutely great. He absolutely deserves to be called up for the Euros. Playing in central midfield for Bayern is not easy. He’s a nice guy, big credit to him. There’s nobody who doesn’t wish him well.”As for Tuchel’s personal situation, he stated that he would not be back next season. “It’s been clear to us all since February that the chapter was coming to an end. It’s been a turbulent last week. It’s important to keep the focus on tomorrow’s game and bring it to a fitting conclusion,” said Tuchel. “It’s obviously tough. Results like in the Champions League against Lazio, Arsenal and Real bring you together. The feedback from recent weeks was the foundation for us having a discussion. But we couldn’t reach an agreement. I won’t name the reasons. The agreement from February stands.“The job requires full energy, but it also gives me a lot of energy. It is my great passion. For me, a good training session is the basis for an excellent day. There are few better, more fun places than a football dressing room. A trophyless season with Bayern is never satisfactory, no one will disagree with that - including myself. It remains a very disappointing performance in the DFB Pokal, which was unsatisfactory. “We are currently second in the Bundesliga and have got a number of points that would have been enough to win the title in nine of the last 11 years, that with injury problems throughout the season and Leverkusen just refusing to lose. That’s not something to be ashamed of. The CL season was almost perfect until the 87th minute in Madrid. Losing there in the last seven minutes can happen. You can accept that without having to be ashamed. We are very self-critical. We will never run away from responsibility. We have the right to walk out of this 15 month period with our heads held high.“I’m a bit sad because I don’t like leaving teams and a staff. There are 60, 70 people here that you see every day. Also the stewards…
VfB Stuttgart v FC Bayern München - Bundesliga Photo by Silas Schueller/DeFodi Images via Getty Images Things are in motion at Bayern Munich. As the days go on, Bayern Munich’s squad planning for the 2024/25 campaign will become more intense. For club executive Max Eberl, discussions with the team’s current players — like Joshua Kimmich — have been ongoing. “Of course we’re speaking to the players. Bayern Munich is a big club. Players can decide to stay at Bayern regardless of the new coach. In the end, we want to find a coach, talk to him about the players and talk to the players,” Eberl told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “Even without a coach, we’re exploring the market, we have players in mind, we have ideas. We’re not just sitting there and doing nothing waiting for the coach.”Eberl and his crew will be busy this summer and Kimmich could be a player on the verge of leaving — and if he does, the dominoes on the club’s transition to the next phase will begin to fall. Brighton & Hove Albion v Aston Villa - Premier League Photo by Bryn Lennon/Getty Images Okay, here we go again... According to a report from Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), Brighton & Hove Albion coach Roberto De Zerbi has vaulted to the top of Max Eberl’s list of candidates for the Bayern Munich head coach position. Can he stay there? If he wants the gig, De Zerbi had better hope that no one exercises any veto privileges. Let’s take a look at what Bild is reporting: Roberto De Zerbi is now Max Eberl’s top candidate to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer. Eberl has already had a meeting with the Italian coach and if he manages to convince him of leaving Brighton, a €12m release clause would be due. De Zerbi’s name was already discussed at the supervisory board meeting on Monday. Eberl presented the board members with his options, which were Tuchel - and then De Zerbi as alternative. As of now, there are no other alternatives. On Monday, the supervisory board decided that bringing Hansi Flick back was no longer an option.Flick not being an option is still puzzling, but with a growing list of candidates who have either shot down Bayern Munich or who have been rejected by the club, the Bavarians are simply running out of options. Eberl has long been a fan of De Zerbi and even had a six-hour conversation with the Italian coach, per Sport Bild journos Christian Falk and David Verhoff (as captured by @iMiaSanMia_GER): Max Eberl had a six-hour conversation with Roberto De Zerbi a few weeks ago. Eberl has not completely written off De Zerbi and is still fighting for him.So...how are you feeling about this one, Bayern Munich fans?Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s arduous hiring process for its head coaching position? Fulham FC v Manchester City - Premier League Photo by Justin Setterfield/Getty Images The stalwart defensive midfielder’s future could be tied to Thomas Tuchel’s. Bayern Munich’s on-again, off-again pursuit of Fulham destroyer João Palhinha continues. The Portuguese international who was ready to snap media photos in Bavaria on transfer deadline day last summer before it all fell through is once again a half-topic for the German Rekordmeister. If that doesn’t sound like a convincing pitch, it is at least half as convincing as Bayern’s pitches for its head coach candidates these days. And the revolving door underneath Thomas Tuchel’s seat is reportedly why Palhinha — still rated €55m on Transfermarkt these days — remains forever in flux. From Sport Bild, via @iMiaSanMia:João Palhinha could be a target for Bayern again if Tuchel stays. Up until now, Zubimendi was the priority target for the holding midfield position - but if it were up to Tuchel, Palhinha is the player he would get for the position. Bayern wouldn’t offer the same fee they were willing to pay last summer. Everyone at the club agreed it was too much money. Move is only realistic if Tuchel stays and if there will be a ‘discount’ [@altobelli13, @cfbayern]Tuchel is on the way out again for the moment. But can Bayern land Real Sociedad star Martín Zubimendi with Arsenal FC circling around him? Will they get either man?Or will it be Joshua Kimmich again at the No. 6?

1. FC Nuremberg - SV Elversberg Photo by Daniel Karmann/picture alliance via Getty Images But not all of him is coming back. The way his accent changed in Elversberg is frightening... Eyebrows were raised when Bayern Munich decided late in the summer of 2023 to loan academy jewel Paul Wanner to SV Elversberg instead of remaining in the Regionalliga with Bayern II. Was a newly promoted 2. Bundesliga side really the best place for the lanky attacking midfielder to hone his talents? As it turns out, it was. Elversberg brought their attacking philosophy from the 3. Bundesliga up into the league above them, allowing Wanner to thrive in a team that was able to play both competent possession based and counter attacking football which led the team to a comfortable midtable finish. With one game left in the season, the Bayern loanee has featured in 27 of the available 29 games this season, having started every one of the last 11 games. So it would stand to reason that Elversberg would prefer to keep the lanky magician. However, Paul Wanner’s loan was always due to expire in the summer and Elversberg’s official twitter account has now confirmed that Wanner will return to Bayern at the end of the season. So the question now becomes: What is in store for Wanner’s future? He has been linked to several Bundesliga sides, which would make sense after doing well in the league below. Looking for more thoughts and analysis of Bayern Munich’s arduous hiring process for its head coaching position?
