He was known for discovering the link of Down Syndrome to chromosome abnormalities. He also described several other diseases related to chromosomal abnormalities. He was a staunch enemy of abortion. He spoke in conferences explaining evil of abortion in the spiritual and scientific sense.

He was an Israeli / Palestinian Carmelite priest and martyr. He is also known as St. Angelus of Sicily. He was born Jewish but was later baptized Catholic and joined the Carmelites. He was sent to Italy to preach against heretics. There, he met Saint Francis and Saint Dominic. There also, he convinced a woman to stop an incestuous relationship with a knight. The angry knight stabbed him on the chest and hacked his head. He died 4 days later.
