Ayder Short-Term Surgical Program | 50 New Smiles, One Incredible Mission
From June 19–29, Operation Smile Ethiopia led a transformative short-term surgical program at Ayder Hospital in Mekelle, bringing together over 50 passionate medical volunteers from across the country and beyond.
Operation Smile Ethiopia is part of the global Operation Smile family, a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free, safe, and timely cleft lip and palate surgeries, as well as comprehensive cleft care including nutrition, speech therapy, dental support, and psychosocial services.
During this campaign, 80 children were screened and 50 received life changing surgery. Every child’s smile restored was a step toward better health, dignity, and opportunity.
This mission was not only about surgery, it was about hope, equity, and the power of collaboration.

Good news from Madda Walabu University's unit of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery
A 50 years old male patient presented to Madda Walabu University Goba referral hospital with a gradually progressive painless swelling of lower jaw of 10 years duration.
During the increment of the mass size, he had visited various health centres. Referral to our center was considered for syrgery, however, due to financial constraints, he preferred traditional healers and stayed home with his problem.
As the mass grew to an enormous size, the facial disfigurement and social stigma pushed him into depression. He had also difficulty of feeding and speaking.
Clinical examination revealed a large non tender swelling with variable consistency measuring 25x19 cm involving more than half of mandible, up to the temporal region on the left side with ulceration of overlying skin at body region of mandible.
Intra-orally, there was a soft tissue mass with ulceration of overlying mucosa extending to the midline pushing tongue to the other side.
The left side of maxilla was distorted from pushing effect. There was a mobile teeth attached to distorted maxilla and loss of entire tooth from left side of mandible.
CT-scan revealed a huge expansile lytic lesions involving more than half of mandible. The expended mandibular cortex was partly thickend and partly invisible and internal multilocular cystic. Incisional biopsy revealed a multicystic type of Ameloblastoma.
Hematologic work up was done and all parameters were in normal range
After adequate pre operative evaluation was performed, he was taken up for surgery: a Hemimandibulectomy with the entire soft tissue mass was performed
Due to its enormous size and intra oral mass, tracheostomy was planned for intubation but nasotracheal intubation was successful. Post operatively the patient is in good condition.

🌡ይህም Hydronephrosis ይባላል።

🌡በጣም የተለመደው ምክንያት ኩላሊቱ ከሽንት ቱቦ ጋር የሚገናኝበት ቦታ ላይ መጥበብ ወይም መዘጋት ሲሆን ይህም Pelvi-Ureteric Junction Obstruction (PUJO) ይባላል።
🌡ይህ በእርግዝና ወቅት ሊከላከሉት የሚችሉት ነገር አይደለም።
