18 June 1815: The French armies of Napoleon were defeated by British-led coalition consisting of units from the United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Hanover, Brunswick, and Nassau, under the command of the Duke of Wellington and a Prussian army under the command of Field Marshal von Blücher at the Battle of Waterloo. This marked the end of the Napoleonic Wars.
Following this defeat, Napoleon was exiled on St Helena, an island off the coast of Africa where he would remain until his death.
