Expulsion of Poles from Czerniejewo in 1939. During WWII there was a massive operation consisting of the forced resettlement of over 1.7 million Poles from the territories of German-occupied Poland between 1939 and 1944.
The German Government had plans for the extensive colonisation of territories of occupied Poland, which were annexed directly into Nazi Germany in 1939. The region was to become a "purely German area".

In 1943 German anti-aircraft batteries were ordered to fire on 200 Luftwaffe planes observed flying over Berlin during the night which had been mistaken for British bombers that had become detached from the concurrent major air raid on Peenemunde (Operation Hydra). The responsible Luftwaffe general, Hans Jeschonnek (picture above, center), subsequently committed suicide after discovering they had shot down German planes in this friendly fire incident.
Arthur Tien Chin, a pilot from the United States who participated in the Second Sino-Japanese War. When Japan invaded China, Chin became part of the first group of U.S. volunteer combat aviators. Chin is recognized as the United States' first flying ace in World War II.
