When thinking about life, remember this: No amount of guilt can solve the past, and no amount of anxiety can change the future.

وقتی به زندگی می اندیشی به یاد داشته باش که هیچ مقداری از احساس گناه نمی تواند گذشته را جبران کند و هیچ مقداری از اضطراب فرقی به حال آینده نخواهد کرد. 👌

🤯| How do we talk in our heads?

Talking in our heads is referred to by psychologists as ‘inner speech’. It involves some similar processes to ‘overt’ speech – it recruits brain regions involved in language, such as the Broca’s and Wernicke’s areas, and is even accompanied by minute muscle movements in the larynx. However, there are notable differences too, with brain areas useful in inhibiting overt speech playing a greater role in inner speech. The exact brain mechanisms involved may come down to why we are talking in our heads in the first place. For example, when we read a book, brain regions involved in attention may be more active than when we are mentally preparing for a race.

IELTS Speaking

PART 1

Topic: PLANS

What is the hardest part about making plans?
● What is the most recent plan you made?
● Do you make plans every day?
● Are you good at managing your time?

1. What is the hardest part of making plans?
It's about prioritizing. It isn't easy to decide the order in which you have to take up the tasks. I often keep wondering whether I should do yoga first or prepare breakfast.

2. What is the most recent plan you made?
I made a travel plan to Bylaguppe, which is on the way to Madikeri. We were a group of four.
We planned to travel in my car, and I made the hotel arrangements too. Since it is a Tibetan settlement, we were on the lookout for authentic Indian food. I was successful in booking a lodging near an Indian restaurant. It was a walkable distance to the restaurant, and my friends
appreciated me for it.

3. Do you make plans every day?
Well, it's not that I make a plan, but things seem to work out in order. I would say I got used to the routine. I rarely do anything out of the ordinary, so you can call me well-planned too.

4. Are you good at managing your time?
I don't make any effort towards it. I follow my routine, and if anything is a priority, be it at work or home, I do that first. Time gets managed automatically.

📋 VOCABULARY
Priority (noun) - the fact or condition of being regarded or treated as more important than others.
Eg: She was given work to be done on priority.

Well-planned (adj) - carefully arranged or designed.
Eg: The wedding was well planned.

Automatic (adj) - (with reference to a device or process) by itself with little or no direct human control.
Eg: The vehicle had an automatic gear.

Routine (noun) - a sequence of actions regularly followed.
Eg: She always stuck to the routine

🔘 UK health authorities roll out COVID-19 vaccines, becoming first country to begin immunization

Our top story this morning. After nearly a year of fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, Britain became the first country in the western world on Tuesday to begin a national immunization program against the virus. Kim Hyo-sun has more on the remarkable day, which UK officials dubbed "V-day." Cheers filled Britain's hospitals on Tuesday as patients rolled up their sleeves to receive the West's first COVID-19 vaccines. On the day the country described as "V-day,"... the first shot happened early in the morning. The first recipient was a grandmother who turns 91 next week. "I thought it was a joke to tell you the truth to start with. I couldn't believe it. But, you know, I'm happy it's happened and now I've done it and hopefully it will help other people to come along and do as I did, you know, try and do the best to get rid of this terrible thing." Medical professionals also welcomed the program. "I'm feeling very emotional today. It is really quite remarkable. We, less than a year ago, were treating the first patient with COVID and we are now able to give a vaccine. The team has been incredible." The aim is to protect the most vulnerable in the U.K. and return life to normal as soon as possible. Britain plans to give the vaccine to senior citizens over the age of 80 and health and care staff. Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who contracted and recovered from a severe case of COVID-19, hailed the roll-out,... but stressed that this is not the end of the pandemic. "And so my message would be: it's amazing to see the vaccine come out, it's amazing this tremendous shot in the arm for the entire nation but we can't afford to relax now." Britain plans to secure enough doses to immunize some 2 million people by year-end,... and is aiming to vaccinate 25 million people, or about 40 percent of the population going forward.

🔴What you say when giving reasons for something

🟢because( conjunction):

used when giving the reason for something:

• The idea was rejected because it was too expensive.
• They were discriminated against because of their colour.

⚫️STUDY NOTE: Grammar

When writing essays, you don't usually use because at the beginning of a sentence when you are referring back to the previous sentence. For example, instead of writing

"Many firms are building factories there. Because wages are much lower." it is much better to write: Many firms are building factories there because wages are much lower.
But if the two sentences you want to connect are very long, you can write The reason is or The reason for this is at the start of a second sentence.

🟢the reason (for this) is:

used when giving the reason for something, especially when the explanation is quite long:

• These printers quickly achieved a market share of over 60%. The reason for this is that the technology they use is much simpler — and therefore cheaper — and running costs are lower.

🟢why (conjunction):

used when writing about the reason that causes something to happen:

• No one knows why the dinosaurs died out so suddenly.
• There are many reasons why people are having fewer children.
• Girls mature earlier than boys. This may explain why they perform better at school.

🟢in order to :

so that someone can do something, or so that something can happen:

• Many criminals steal in order to get money to buy drugs. (=the reason they steal is so that they can buy drugs)

⚫️STUDY NOTE: Grammar

In order to is typically used in formal English. In less formal contexts, you often just use to, for example: I wanted to go to France to improve my knowledge of the language.

🟢for (preposition(:

because of a particular reason:

• Most people go there for sightseeing.
• The names cannot be published for legal reasons.
• The data will be used for research purposes.

🟢through( preposition):

used when explaining why someone succeeded or failed:

• She got the job through hard work. (=because she worked very hard)
• The records were lost, either through carelessness or incompetence.

🟢as a result of:

used when explaining what made something happen:

• Sea levels are rising as a result of global warming.
• As a result of his work, illnesses such as tuberculosis can now be treated.

🟢due to / owing to (preposition ):

used to give the reason why something has happened:

• She resigned due to ill health.
• The number of songbirds has declined. This is partly due to modern farming methods.
• Owing to lack of public interest, the programme was abandoned.

📚"شرح یک کتاب"📚

IELTS Speaking Part 2: ''describe a book'' answer
🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸🔸
Describe a book that you enjoyed reading because you had to think a lot.
You should say:

- what this book was
- why you decided to read it
- what reading this book made you think about
- and explain why you enjoyed reading this book.

🗒Here's my band 9 sample

I’m going to talk about a book that really made me think, and that has had a positive effect on my life. The name of the book is ‘Atomic Habits’, and it’s about the compounding effect that small decisions and minuscule changes can have on people’s lives.
____________________________

I decided to read Atomic Habits after seeing an interview with the book’s author, James Clear, who is a world-renowned expert in the field of habit formation. In the interview, he told inspiring stories and revealed some simple life hacks that can make people more productive, motivated and happy. I found the whole idea of the ‘science of tiny habits’ fascinating, and so I bought the book straight away.
____________________________
While reading the book, I was forced to confront my own habits and behaviours. I realised that I’m nowhere near as productive as I could be, but that some small tweaks to my routine could make a significant and long-lasting difference. The book also gave me a framework to understand how good habits are formed and how bad habits can be broken. It has encouraged me to analyse my own habits accordingly.
____________________________
I thoroughly enjoyed reading Atomic Habits because I thought it was well researched, well reasoned and well written. The author’s ideas and advice aren’t simply his opinions; they are taken from cutting-edge research and real success stories. I enjoy reading books that change my way of thinking in some way or give me practical, life-altering ideas, and this was definitely one of those books.
