Less developed countries may struggle with providing their rural populations with a satisfactory standard of education. Whether traditional schools and teachers are still the solution, or new technologies should be employed to overcome this challenge shall be discussed in this essay.

The main reason proponents of brick-and-mortar schools put forward has to do with equality. If city children benefit from the presence and guidance of professionally-trained educators, so should their rural peers. To offer village dwellers anything other than the exact form of education seen in urban areas could be counted as discrimination, which should have no place in public education.

Such a view, however, presents us with unique challenges. Rural settlements tend to be sparsely populated; constructing a school in each and every local village with a few inhabitants requires a spectacularly large budget. Another obstacle is finding experienced and knowlegeable teachers willing to work in remote areas. They may have to be offered higher salaries and suitable accommodation as incentives, all of which put less well-off nations under serious budgetary strain.

Distance learning may very well be the answer to these problems. The existing telephone and electricity infrastructure can be exploited to provide internet coverage, cutting costs significantly and leaving only computers to be provided by government. A basic laptop with a serviceable internet connection opens a world of opportunities to rural children. Through online classes, they can enjoy the very same teaching programmes that are offered in the world's best academic institutions. This way of education, while different, is not necessarily inferior to what is provided by standard schools.

In conclusion, despite concerns about potential discrimination, financial considerations seem to rule out a traditional education for children in all rural communities. Yet, even the least well-off country should manage to invest in a few computers per village to enable the school-age children in these areas to access up-to-date digital lessons, hopefully giving them the same life chances in the future as their peers in cities.

The diagram depicts the process through which electricity is produced in a hydroelectric power station. The station is comprised of a generator, reversible turbines, pipe lines, a dam controlled by an intake and two reservoirs.

By day, the intake is open, and this allows the river water stored behind the dam in the high-level reservoir to flow down the sloping pipe and rotate the turbines. The generator converts mechanical energy to electrical energy, and the power lines transfer the generated electricity to national grid. Having passed the turbines, water enters the low-level reservoir.

During night, however, the station works in reverse. Once the intake is closed, the turbines spin in the opposite direction to pump water up into the high-level reservoir.

Overall, the hydroelectric power station serves two different purposes, operating the turbines by day and sending water back into the high-level reservoir by night.

Unfavorable conditions are an inseparable part of life. In the face of these difficulties, there are generally two approaches to adopt-one is resigning yourself to situations like financial embarrassment , and the other is to strive so as to ameliorate them. However, I believe the best course of action depends on the circumstances a person is confronted with.

There are occasions on which an individual is totally incapable of changing an undesirable situation, hence it is best to come to terms with it. Should we persist with a lost cause, we will end up developing an unhealthy obsession which does nothing but reduce our quality of life. Imagine a country suffering a deep recession where people are facing serious financial problems; under these circumstances, it is usually futile for individuals to take any actions to make improvements. There is no need to put our lives on hold in a vain bid to improve an unalterable state of affairs.

Nevertheless, this should not be an excuse for people to surrender whenever they encounter unpleasant situations. In many cases, there is a lot which can be done to make them better. There exist a huge number of examples where now-well-known people prospered just because they did not accept the difficult circumstances they found themselves in. Take, for instance, Steve Jobs who achieved a resounding success simply because he did not accept the low-status job that he had. The worst case scenario here is failing to make any tangible progress, in which case we will at least have gained more experience.

All in all, almost everyone faces unpleasant situations in their life, and the way we choose to contend with them should not always be the same. We ought to make a strenuous effort to alter these unfavorable conditions, and only when we are certain that the attempt is fruitless should we come to accept them, succumbing to the unsatisfactory state of affairs.
