🔴Subjects and lesson contents are decided by authorities, such as the government. Some people argue that teachers should make the choice.

▪️To what extent do you agree?

https://www.tg-me.com/IELTSAliakbarzadehMohammadi
Teaching materials are designed by governments all around the world. It has been proposed that authorities should give this responsibility to teachers, but I think this would cause too many problems.

The first point to consider is that teachers are individuals, and have widely differing personalities, goals, and tastes. Were the choice of subjects left to teachers, no two classes would be held in the same way. Some educators would potentially focus on certain areas they felt more competent in, instead of exposing pupils to a broad range of concepts. Think of a history teacher who has specialised in the Roman era; chances are his students would develop a lopsided view of history, placing too much importance on Roman times at the cost of, say, modern ages. This imbalance would be very undesirable at the school level.

On a more practical note, leaving the curriculum in teachers' hands would create several logistic problems on a nation-wide scale. For one thing, transition from one school to another-fairly common when families have to move to a new neighbourhood for whatever reason-would be almost impossible. There would be no way for a child to continue their education where they have left off, as each school follows its own agenda. Universities also would face new challenges in their admissin procedure. Academic institutions rely on a merit point system for admission, presupposing that candidates have studied fairly similar materials and have been subjected to the same assessment methods. Otherwise, how could they fairly compare students' achievements with one another? The only institution that is realistically capable of ensuring such consistency is the government.

The idea that teachers could take over curriculum design from the government seems naive at best. This could harm children's education and disrupt the educational system on a country-wide scale. While there would be no harm in consulting experienced teachers when designing the syllabus, it is the government that must have the final say in all related matters, enforcing a uniform system all over the country.
