India built spirals before the world built skyscrapers. In Walur, Maharashtra, lies a helical stepwell, 1,000 years old, carved in silence, spiralling into devotion. No cement. No machines. Just geometry, gravity, and genius.
Itโs the only one of its kind on the planet. A vortex of symmetry, built not for tourists, but for time. Yet today, it lies neglected. No ASI plaque. No preservation.

๐นโจ The King Returns, A Nation Remembers. #MeghUpdates
Long ago, there were a pair of divine twins. The brother was Yama, the Lord of Death, &his sister was Yamuna, the beautiful & sacred river. They were the children of the Sun God, Surya & Mata Sangya, but their lives took them on very different paths. Yamraj was extremely busy, with the important & somber duty of guiding souls to the afterlife. Yamuna, on the other hand, flowed on Earth, bringing life & sustenance to all from her waters.
Now, Yamuna missed her brother very much. She would often send messages to him, inviting him to come & visit her on Earth, to see her beautiful world & to spend some time together like they did when they were younger. But Yamraj was always occupied. "Oh, sister," he would sigh, "My duties are too great. The world of mortals is a complex place, & I cannot be away for long."
But Yamuna was patient. Her love for her brother was unwavering, & she waited for his visit year after year.

Long ago, there were a pair of divine twins. The brother was Yama, the Lord of Death, &his sister was Yamuna, the beautiful & sacred river. They were the children of the Sun God, Surya & Mata Sangya, but their lives took them on very different paths. Yamrajโฆ
Finally, the day arrived. It was the second day after Diwali, known as Kartik Shukla Dwitiya. Yamraj decided he would make his sister's wish come true. To show his affection, he even paused his duties for a moment, an act that brought a ripple of relief across the underworld. It was a day of profound compassion, even from the Lord of Death.
When Yamraj arrived at his sister's home, Yamuna's heart swelled with happiness. She had waited for this day for so long! She welcomed him with a warm & loving embrace, & the two siblings were simply delighted to see each other after so many ages.
Yamuna had prepared a great welcome. She performed an aarti for her brother, waving a lit lamp to honor him. Then, with great love &care, she applied a sacred tilak on his forehead, a symbol of her prayers for his protection &well-being. She then served him a great feast, a table laden with all his favorite dishes, each one prepared with a generous helping of her love.
As the day came to an end, Yamraj was deeply moved by his sister's devotion & hospitality. "Yamuna," he said, "Your love has touched my heart. Ask for anything you wish, & it shall be granted".
Yamuna didn't ask for riches or power. She looked at her brother with a loving smile &made a wish that was as selfless as her heart. "Brother," she said, "I have only one request. Promise me that you will visit me every year on this very day. &promise me that any brother who visits his sister on this day, &any sister who welcomes her brother with a tilak & a meal, will be blessed with a long &healthy life, & will be protected from the fear of death".
Yamraj, touched by her beautiful request, immediately granted her wish. He was so pleased that he went one step further. "&there is one more gift," he declared. "Any brother & sister who take a holy dip in your sacred waters on this day will be forever shielded from misfortune".
And so, it is said that from that day forward, the tradition of Bhai Dooj began. The story reminds us that the love between a brother &sister is a bond so pure & powerful that it can transcend all boundaries
