On the urban/rural divide - in Dublin, the % of spoiled votes by Constituency is very strongly related to deprivation/affluence.
Elsewhere, shown on the map here by difference from national average %, the Leinster and midlands area shows a spatial cluster of spoiled votes % greater than the national average (i.e., Offaly, Louth, Meath West, Kildare South, Longford-Westmeath, Laois, Wicklow-Wexford, Meath-East).
CSO population data show that these areas have younger populations, in general, than the areas with a lower % of spoiled votes.
So the younger the county, the more likely to spoil.
