The Salaf saw Winter as a great opportunity to increase in worship without much effort as the:

1. The days are short

2. The nights are long

When the days are short, the time for fasting is short and so its an opportunity to increase in our fast

When the nights are long, the time for night prayer is long and so its an opportuntiy to increase in our prayer

Let's take advantage of these months!

‎It is reported from the Prophet (chain is questionable) that he said:

‎الصَّوْمُ فِي الشِّتَاءِ الْغَنِيمَةُ الْبَارِدَةُ

‎"Fasting in winter is the cold spoils"

‎See Musannaf ibn Abee Shaybah

The reason "cold" is used is because usually one attains spoils through waging war against the Disbelievers and putting in hardwork

During Winter, the daytime is short and so fasting is not arduous yet the reward is like the spoils of war against the disbelievers

During Winter, the nighttime is long and so praying is not arduous. One can sleep a good portion of the night and pray a good portion too and so the action is not difficult yet the reward is huge.

So let's take advantage!

Sending ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ on Friday is better than on the rest of the days, and its night (Thursday night) is the best of nights. He ﷺ said, “Among the best of your days is Friday, so frequently send ṣalāh upon me therein.”
