Known for its rubber and spice plantations, Pathanapuram is a province situated in the Kollam district of Kerala. It is a beautiful town settled between the Western Ghats in the Eastern part of Kollam. Spread over an area of 248.32 square km, it is an important centre for trade. The residents of Pathanapuram indulge themselves in daily activities such as maintaining dairies, poultry, farming, rearing of goats, making bricks, weaving bamboos, etc. to earn their primary income.

Since the town comprises of cultivations of spice and rubber, it attracts a huge number of foreign as well as local tourists who trade in this area of business. People also visit the place during the months of February and March to experience the Chandanakuddam festival which is held at the mosque every year for the devotees.

​​BAKER’S HERITAGE BUNGALOW

The Baker’s Heritage Bungalow is a Victorian two storied bungalow built on huge pieces of teak wood rafters packed in mud as a base. The Bungalow and the Kumarakom Bird sanctuary was developed by an Englishman, Alfred George Baker in the year 1881 and was owned by four generations of the Baker family till it was converted into the first modern tourist resort in Kumarakom. The place is said to be a reminder of an age and people whose hard work cannot be erased by time.

​​Folklore Theatre and Museum

Kerala Folklore Theatre and Museum is one of Cochin’s most popular tourist spots. It exhibits state cultural exhibits and folk-tribal objects. The museum is a 3-story building, opened in 2009, which represents Kerala’s real legacy. The facade of the building has had a very strong architectural influence from Malabar.

The first floor with the architectural style of Cochin is called kalithattu, which means a play floor and displays costumes of Kerala’s various traditional and ritual dance forms such as Theyyam, Ottanthullal, Kathakali, and Mohiniyattam.

​​Lakkidi Gateway – Explore The Haunted History

Located in the Wayanad district of Kerala, Lakkidi Gateway is the shortest route to cross over the Thamarassery pass. However, the discovery of this route is what has turned the gateway into one of the most haunted places in Kerala.

The Story: It is said that in colonial times, a British engineer took help from a person named Karinthandan to find Lakkidi and in order to attain the credit for finding the way himself, he killed Karinthandan. Later, many travelers passing the new route reported the wandering of the soul of Karinthandan. A priest was called and exorcism was performed to chain the doleful spirit to a tree. Amazingly, the chain has grown with the tree which people believe to be the soul that has not freed till now.

Spooky Occurrence: Trespassers have witnessed the frightening shrieks and scream at night.

​​Kulamavu Dam

Situated on the Thodupuzha-Puliyanmala state highway, Kulamavu Dam is a gravity/masonry dam on the Periyar river. The water stored in it was used for the production of electricity at the power house in Moolamattom. The 100 ft gravity dam built of concrete or stone masonry on the Periyar River stretches out between rocky mountains and forms 33 sq km reservoir.

This is an incredible and dazzling place built in tradiational Kerala acrhicturecural design, one of the best Trivandrum destinations to visit. Situated very near to Napier museum and the zoo – this ravishing palace is very well maintained and clean. The surroundings to the palace are quite adorable with lush green nature. The area is quite serene and calm.

A great place to just walk around. There is an eatery as well in the palace compound and you can get an incredible cup of tea or coffee there.
