Syrian Internal Security in Idlib governorate arrested Colonel Ziad Kokesh for war crimes against Syrians. Kokesh suppressed protesters early in the revolution, later commanded key Hama checkpoints, and after 2016 retirement joined the 25th Division, participating in military campaigns targeting revolutionary areas. He has been referred to the judiciary for legal proceedings.

Colonel Thaer Hussein, the second senior official from Saydnaya Prison to be arrested today, was taken into custody by the Internal Security Command in the Tartous countryside. As part of ongoing efforts to hold those accountable responsible for the prison’s notorious abuses, he has been placed in judicial custody.

Syria’s central bank governor, Abdulqader Hosariah, said that lifting US sanctions would restore direct access to the SWIFT system and enable talks with foreign banks over frozen funds. He added that this would help stabilize Syria’s exchange rate, which the government wants, so they will be able to change currency.
