Josko Gvardiol: “I was thinking about quitting [football aged 16] because I like basketball as well. I wasn't sure in football because when you get to training you don't feel happy any more, you know? I was just trying to find other solutions and to feel happier than before because all my friends were playing basketball.”

Gvardiol: “My dream obviously was to become a professional football player, but I didn't know I was going to go that far. If you go five years back and ask me, do you see yourself at Man City in 2023, '24, '25? I’d say no chance, really impossible.”

Josko Gvardiol: “I'm happy to be back [in left centre-back]. Just play simple, protect and defend the goal. Obviously we have new goals this season and want to aim high. But it's quite early to talk about goals, the season is long.”
