Morgoth calls bullshit in his new article.
This is what I have been trying to explain for three years now. The likes of Mearsheimer and Diesen say we should be oh-so concerned about Russia's security interests - but for some reason we should pretend that Europe has no security interests.
When Ukraine tries to become part of NATO, Russia sees it as an existential threat and attacks. But when Russia invades Ukraine and starts the biggest war in Europe since WW2, we are not to see it as a security threat. If we respond, we are "warmongers". Such is the propaganda
When Europe is weak and relies on US defense, we are "puppets". But when we build up our own military to protect our own interests, we are "warmongers". Yes, I call bullshit, too.
Says Morgoth:
"For a while now, I’ve begun to sense that geopolitical discourse in the network I’m part of is a little wonky, a tad off-kilter in a way that feels ominous and ill-fated.

According to Mearsheimer, Western encroachment into Ukraine presented an existential threat to Russia, and ... Russia was compelled to invade... However, I find it rather baffling that those same people never use the Mearsheimer lens when discussing European security interests... Ironically, it is the liberal, regime-friendly podcasters who more correctly apply Mearsheimer’s logic. They argue that in a world of Great Power blocs, it is obviously against European interests to remain undefended and reliant on what they see in Donald Trump as a liability and an incompetent buffoon."
