Everywhere we hear that Narendra Modi became the Prime Minister and ushered in a digital revolution in India. But what exactly is this digital revolution? I got to see — and experience — a wonderful little example of it today at Hyderabad Airport.

After checking in, I had quite some time to spare, so I was wandering around the airport area when I saw a robot roaming about. It was saying, “Place your order and I’ll bring it to you.” The robot was moving around, and many people were taking photos and videos of it — but no one actually placed an order.

So Santosh decided to give it a try and placed an order for one coffee and one tea. He scanned a QR code and even made the payment digitally. Once the payment was complete, the robot said it would deliver the order to Gate 115 in 15 minutes, and then it left to place the order.

And sure enough, 15 minutes later, the robot arrived at Gate 115 and made an announcement that it had someone’s order.

Santosh and I were both standing right there. I was recording a video. Upon hearing the announcement, Santosh stepped forward and entered the OTP he had received on the robot's screen. The robot verified the phone number and OTP, then opened its internal compartment — and there it was: a cup of tea and a cup of coffee.

After taking out the tea and coffee, the robot detected that the order was completed through its sensors, closed the compartment, and went on its way.

Now if this isn’t a digital revolution, then what is?

For such countless innovations, even if we have to vote for Modi a hundred times, it’s worth it.
