There is a lot of chatter from the media claiming that Trump felt “humiliated” and that the talks were a failure. This contrasts with public statements from both Russian and American delegations which both described the talks as constructive and very positive.

How would the media know what Trump felt or his private feelings? The media clearly has a pro-Ukraine/anti-Russia bias and therefore a clear motivation to mischaracterize the overall impact of the talks.

At the same time, the American delegation has a clear motivation to play-up the talks in order to save face, even if they weren’t successful.

Without anything concrete like an agreement, a framework for an agreement, or even a commitment for future talks— it does seem that the summit was a failure.
