Clinical abortion is no means of birth control and the penalty for murder is imposed both on those who practice it and on those who ask for it (91st Canon of the Sixth Ecumenical Council).

Orthodox Christians are to contribute to legislative processes according to their knowledge, competence, ability and influence so that laws may be enacted and enforced which protect and defend the lives of unborn children while being sensitive to the complexities and tragedies of life in contemporary society.

Abortion is a heinous murder of an innocent creature, committed by the decision and intention of the parents. The doctor is also a direct accomplice to this crime. The state must adopt appropriate laws to ban abortion.
