If you see a man who has sinned and you do not pity him, the grace of God will leave you. Whoever curses bad people, and does not pray for them, will never come to know the grace of God.

☦️St Silouan the Athonite (Writings, VII.4, VIII.6)
Saint Markella (July 22) is "greatly venerated on the island of Chios. In the church dedicated to her there, miracles occur every year … According to tradition, Markella was an unusually pious girl who was left motherless at an early age. Her bestial, pagan father wanted to live with his daughter as with a wife. When he made his intentions known, the horrified Markella fled from her father, but he, enraged like a wild beast, caught up with her on the rocky shore of the island and cut her into pieces. In the proximity of her church, there are certain stones that, from time to time, become as if covered with blood. People take these stones, bring them to church, and pray to St. Markella. They then touch the sick with them, who are thereby healed."

St. Nikolai Velimirovich (1880-1956), Prologue

When a priest performs the Blessing of Water at the place of her martyrdom, a mist arises from the water and covers the entire area. The sea returns to normal as soon as the service is over.
☦️ St Paisios
Having furnished thy mind with wings of divine knowledge, O ever-glorious Olga, pray for thy spiritual descendants in Ukraine, Russia and Belarus, that Christ our God grant them lasting peace from above!

The first female ruler of Rus was Equal-to-the-Apostles, St. Olga (July 11/ July 24), in baptism, Helen, is known also as “Viking-Russian Princess," “Missionary to Ukraine,” and “Scourge of the Drevlians.”

A visit to Constantinople became for both the pagan Olga and her land, a road to redemption. She was moved by the Christians she met at Constantinople and soon received Holy Baptism. Even after her pagan son had ascended to the throne, St Olga’s efforts to heal the violence in her realm and spread Orthodox Christianity were unmatched.

A generation after Olga’s death, her grandson, St. Vladimir would continue the task of bringing Orthodox Christianity to what is now Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus.
Myrrh began streaming from the miracle-working icon of the Holy and Righteous Anna, Mother of the Theotokos (Dormition Feast July 25 / August 6) at St Tikhon's Monastery in Pennsylvania in 2004. Her icon exudes a sweet fragrance continues to work healings.

The Righteous Anna was of the tribe of Levi, and the daughter of Matthan the priest. After a long life pleasing to God, she entered into rest at a great age.

“Divinely-wise Anna, you carried in your womb the pure Mother of God, who gave life to our Life. Therefore, you are now carried joyfully to the inheritance of heaven, to the abode of those who rejoice in glory, where you seek forgiveness of sins for those who faithfully honour you, ever-blessed one.”
Having suffered greatly for Christ, the Greatmartyr and Healer Panteleimon (July 27/ Aug 9) is a wellspring of healing for those afflicted by diseases and suffering.

As a doctor, St Panteleimon invoked the envy of fellow physicians for treating people without charge. When Panteleimon began healing Christians in prison, the emperor Maximian (284-305) had the saint stretched on a rack, thrown into a cauldron of boiling tar, and cast into the sea with a stone around his neck, Yet, he survived all these attempted executions. With each one of them, and more and more people came to believe in Jesus Christ. Finally, God's purpose was achieved when Panteleimon was tied to an olive tree and beheaded. The tree became covered with fruit. Again, many were converted.

Holy Passion-bearer and healer Panteleimon, entreat the merciful God, to grant our souls forgiveness of transgressions.
In 2007 Father Panagiotis Tsiolis was digging in his garden and crying for a blasphemous movie that was going to be played in the cinemas. Then he heard a voice from the sky telling him: “Why do you cry priest and wail, I am too high, their arrows don’t reach me, they are going to fall on their heads.”

☦️ St John Chrysostom
The world hates Christians, so why give your love to it instead of following Christ, who loves you and has redeemed you?
+ St Cyprian
The Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles Prince Vladimir (July 15 / July 28) faithfully served God with works of mercy and was glorified by the people as "Vladimir, the red sun." This day is celebrated as it the baptism of Rus and the beginning of the Russian Church. Its significance for Russia and the world is not to be underestimated.

"The time is coming, my brothers, and it's already on the threshold, when, with filth flooded and in agony, the aged face of the Russian people will shine like the sun and illuminate all those who are sitting in the darkness and shadow of death. Then all nations on earth will thankfully say: 'Our Russia, our martyr, the red sun!'…

Blessed are you who are weeping with Russia these days, for with her, and be comforted! Blessed are you who are grieving today with Russia, for with her you will soon rejoice.”

+ Saint Nicholas (Velimirovich) July 15/ 28 1932, Belgrade

Holy Equal-to-the-Apostles to Prince Vladimir, pray to God for us!
Pray simply. Do not expect to find in your heart any remarkable gift of prayer. Consider yourself unworthy of it. Then you will find peace. Use the empty cold dryness of your prayer as food for your humility.

☦️ St Macarius of Optina
Teach your children this lesson:
The rewards of evil are temporary; while the rewards of Godliness
are eternal.

☦️St Cyprian
O Lord, save Your people and bless Your inheritance! Grant victories to the Orthodox Christians over their adversaries and by virtue of the Cross, preserve Your habitation!

This Feast of the Procession of the Honourable Wood of the Life-Giving Cross of the Lord (Aug 1 / Aug 14) was established jointly by the Greeks and Russians in the time of the Greek Emperor Manuel and the Russian Prince Andrei, as a memorial of the victories of the both the Russians over the Bulgars, and the Greeks over the Saracens.

“Because of the illnesses that occur in August, it was customary, in former times, to carry the Venerable Wood of the Cross through the streets and squares of Constantinople for the sanctification of the city, and for relief from sickness. On the eve, it was taken out of the imperial treasury and laid upon the altar of the Great Church of Hagia Sophia. From this Feast until the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos, they carried the Cross throughout the city in procession…” —Greek Horologion, 1897
St Herman once asked Russian naval officers docked at Kodiak, Alaska: "What do you love more than anything else and what do you wish for your happiness?”

After listening to a variety of answers, St Herman responded: “For our own good and benefit, let us at least promise to try to love God more than anything else, and to obey His holy will!”
The Tsar Ivan the Terrible was feared by everyone. It is said Ivan feared only one person on earth, Basil, the fool (yurodivi) for Christ (Aug 2). St. Basil, who roamed the streets of Moscow in rags, was unafraid to address to the Tsar's face his murderous atrocities. Yet, not only did Ivan not harm Basil, he gave him gifts.

This Y.V. Grafov painting "St Basil Miracle Worker of Moscow" calls to mind an old icon of the saint at Moscow's St Basil's Cathedral, showing the saint clad in only a loincloth and beard.

O Christ our God, Grant us the courage to be fools in the eyes of the world, so we may be wise in Your Kingdom.
In August, 2021, a raging wall of fire appeared ready to consume the Holy Monastery of Saint David the Elder in Drymonas, Greece. Flames 30 to 40 meters high were met with an invisible, holy and impenetrable shield causing the wall of fire to stop literally at the monastery’s doors.

By the prayers of many faithful and through the intercessions of the monastery’s holy founder, our Venerable and God-bearing Father David of Euboea, (David the Elder), and St Iakovos Tsalikis of Evia, the raging wildfire was stopped.

The miracles of St David have been numerous at the monastery over the centuries. People with physical, psychic and spiritual diseases have been healed by leaning down to venerate the Saint’s holy skull.
An annual miracle occurs on the Feast of the Transfiguration (6/19 Aug) at Mt Tabor, where our Lord, God and Saviour Jesus Christ appeared in His divine glory before the Apostles Peter, James, and John (Mt 17:1-9, Mk 9:2-8, Lk 9:28-36). After the all night vigil, at about 4 am, an unusual cloud, described as having a "different" quality covers the mountain. The Mt. Tabor area is very dry and gets little rain, yet each year the miraculous cloud arrives. People bring fruit and leave it out for the cloud's moisture to cover it.

"When, O Christ our God, Thou wast transfigured on the mountain, Thou didst reveal Thy glory to Thy Disciples in proportion as they could bear it. Let Thine everlasting light also enlighten us sinners, through the intercessions of the Theotokos, O God Thou Bestower of light, glory to Thee."
