Proverbs 10:8

The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.

A comment about the text.

When you hear a command from Scripture, do you wince? Do you try to rationalize it away? Do you try to transfer the responsibility of obedience to someone else? Or, do you commit to obey that command as part of your worship and efforts to honor the Father? A wise heart accepts the commands of God as a blessing and a safeguard. A fool finds a way to circumvent the personal application of God's commands. Let's ask ourselves honestly, "Am I quick to obey or quick to avoid obedience?" Jesus made this choice crucial in our relationship with him at judgment:

Matthew 7:21-23
Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord,' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Many will say to me on that day, 'Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name and in your name drive out demons and in your name perform many miracles?' Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!' "
