The US State Department’s decision to shut down its online portal for reporting human rights violations by foreign military units sparked criticism, especially as it limits accountability for Israeli army crimes against Palestinians.

The portal, created in 2022 under the Leahy Law, allowed individuals and organizations to report abuses by forces funded and armed by Washington, including Israeli units in the occupied West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Amnesty International said it was preparing a report on the killing of 20 Palestinians by Israeli occupation forces before the site’s removal, warning that closing the portal undermines transparency and accountability and shields perpetrators from justice.

In another ceasefire violation, Israeli occupation forces have repeatedly opened fire towards the southern and northern areas of Khan Younis city in the southern Gaza Strip tonight.

The UN Population Fund warned that severe malnutrition among pregnant women and infants in Gaza will have long-term effects on future generations, as Israel’s war devastates the health system and causes extreme food and medicine shortages.

Around 70% of newborns are now underweight or premature, compared to 20% before the war, while neonatal units operate at 170% of capacity.

The Fund said malnutrition is the main threat amid the collapse of 94% of hospitals, with only 15% of facilities providing emergency maternity care.

Jeremy Konyndyk, president of Refugees International and former USAID disaster response chief, told The Daily Report that Gaza’s starvation levels reveal a “man-made humanitarian failure” despite international commitments under the ceasefire.
