Iran is moving its capital from Tehran to the southern region of Makran. The development comes as Tehran is facing a slew of issues including a high population density, a water crisis and a power shortage. The Makran region is in the Sistan and Baluchestan province, near its southern coast and the Gulf of Oman. Makran could become a commercial and maritime hub in the future.With over 1,000 kilometers of coastline and the Chabahar Free Trade-Industrial Zone being developed since 2003, Iran is looking to make Makran an international trade corridor connecting Central Asia to the Indian Ocean.
This could be a huge geopolitical gain for India as Makran possibly the new capital of Iran is very close to the India owned Chabahar port. Entering IRAN through the Chabahar port crossing through Makran, a corridor can be made b/w India & Europe entering the Europe through Moscow. Therefore if Makran becomes the capital of IRAN it will be a huge strategical and geopolitical (+) point for India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated the 6.5 km Z-Morh tunnel in Central Kashmir's Ganderbal district, making the Sonamarg tourist resort accessible year-round.The Prime Minister inspected the 6.5 km-long tunnel constructed at an estimated Rs 2,700 crore.
During the inauguration, Prime Minister Modi was accompanied by lieutenant governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and chief minister Omar Abdullah.At the inauguration of the Sonamarg Tunnel, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah pushed for J&K statehood in a mild manner. The Prime Minister also responded tactically without mentioning statehood. While addressing people, the Prime Minister said that the promises made would be kept, saying that the "right things will happen at the right time."
