We talk about leadership a lot of the Time. But how many of us actually know what it means?

Contrary to what most people think, leadership has more to do with influence than position. Another definition of leadership is, taking the initiative to solve a problem. A person that is doing this is exercising leadership.

At the session we had at Addis Ababa University, specifically business and economics campus, we talked about leadership. We discussed the basic misconceptions related to it and it was an eye opening session to a lot of the students.

6️⃣ ስድስት የደህንነት ማጣት ችግር ምልክቶች
🔹️ ማወዳደር
ራሳችንን ከሌሎች ጋር ማወዳደር እና ከሌሎች ስኬት አንጻር ነጥቦችን ለራሳችን መቁጠር።
 
🔹️ ማካካሻ
በሁኔታዎች እንደተሰቃየን እና ለኪሳራችን ወይም ለዝቅተኛነታችን ተጽዕኖ መተካት ወይም ማመጣጠን እንዳለብን ሲሰማን።
 
🔹️ ውድድር
ትኩረት ወይም ሽልማት ለማግኘት ከሌሎች የበለጠ ስኬታማ ለመሆን ቆርጠን በራስ ወዳድነት መስራት።
 
🔹️ አስገዳጅነት
የሌሎችን ፈቃድ ለማግኘት በግዴታ ወደ ሥራ ማምራት፦ ሰውን ደስ አሰኚ ነን።
 
🔹️ ውግዘት
ለራሳችን ወይም ለሌሎች ያለን የፍርድ አመለካከት፣ ይህም የሆነ ፍትሃዊ ያልሆነ ወይም የማያስደስት ነገር ደርሶብናል ብለን ስለምናስብ የሀዘን እና የድብርት ስሜት ያስከትልብናል።

ዋጋችንን ለማረጋገጥ ንብረቶቻችንን መቆጣጠር እና መጠበቅ እንዳለብን ይሰማናል።

6️⃣ Six signs of an insecurity problem
🔹️ COMPARISON
We compare ourselves to others, and we count points for ourselves against their achievements.
 
🔹️ COMPENSATION
We feel like we suffer because of circumstances and must replace or balance the effects for our losses or inferiority.
 
🔹️ COMPETITION
We become self-centered, determined and work  to be more successful than others to gain attention or reward.
 
🔹️ COMPULSION
We are driven to work compulsively to gain others approval; We're a people-pleaser.
 
🔹️ CONDEMNATION
Judgmental attitude toward ourselves or others, resulting in a feeling of being sad and depressed because we think that something unfair or unpleasant has happened to us.
 
🔹️ CONTROL
In order to validate our worth, we feel we must control and protect our properties.

💡Have you ever heard of the analogy of "BIG ROCKS FIRST"?

The analogy gives us a picture of a jar, a bunch of big rocks, small rocks and sand to put in the jar. If we had to fit all of these things into the jar, we must then put them in, in a particular order. If we don't put our big rocks in first, the smaller things would take up so much space that we can't even have all of the big rocks in the jar. But if we put our big rocks in, there will be enough space so that everything is able to fit in the jar.

📓 During our last session of YLD (Young Leaders Voice), at Addis Ababa University, we discussed about priorities and time management. As students, the trainees were asked to reflect on what things are most important to them and what takes up most of their time or what their "BIG ROCKS" were.

This time around, we spent time at Hossaena with youth leaders where we got to discuss about purpose and the basics of coaching and mentoring. The students got the chance to question and evaluate their purpose, the importance of developing their skills, to also empower others that are in their community.

These are young people leading other people their age. By spending this time with them, we believe the training will be help them in their journey of leadership to reach a better level of efficiency in their years ahead. In addition to the training, we formed a relationship with them that will continue to flourish in the future.

💡 When scholars teach on leadership, there teach that there are different types. One of these types is classified as one that is influencial the most, and that is LEADERSHIP THROUGH CHARACTER.

💡In the context of our students at Addis Ababa University, 6 kilo campus, they were trained on how they should start their journey of being leaders by developing their character. Another highlight of the program was that character development is not a goal to be achieved overnight, but rather it is a process by which we always continue in becoming.
