Digital Arrest Scam

Digital Arrest Scams are increasing day by day and people are loosing their savings apart from the mental trauma they encounter. Let me give you the MO of such scam so that you don’t fall for it.
You may get a phone call from some one posing as custom officers of an airport or a police officer, CBI etc telling you that your mobile SIM or Aadhar card or name is involved in some illegal activity and you may get arrested for the same. They may video call and somebody dressed in police or custom uniform May talk to you. They may even show you a fake arrest warrant. They will make it seemingly believable. They will tell you that if you tell or call anybody, that fellow will also be arrested. Now they will tell you to sit in a room in front of mobile camera. Then they will tell that they want to assess your valuables and bank accounts. They may tell you to transfer all your money to an account which will be returned after verification. There are instances when they forced people to encash their FDs.
They are targeting people from all walks of life. People are falling in this trap. Recently a retired lady from CR Park, Delhi lost some 75/80 lakh rupees. Few days back one of my friend got such a call. Thankfully, he rang me. Second time when the call came he told them to send police to arrest him as he has nothing to eat. He may be better off in jail. Thereafter, they didn’t call.
I am posting this so that none of us shall be a victim to this scam.
