The beginning was so lovely,
the journey so kind,
I forgot the deep pain
waiting at the end of the line.

At the fair, on the swing ride,
I forgot all my fear,
because you sat beside me,
and held me near.

We laughed in the metro,
learning new ways,
roaming the city,
losing track of days.

That ice cream we shared,
one spoon, one smile,
a little taste of heaven
that made life worthwhile.

But endings do come,
with silence and ache,
and the heart learns slowly
how much it can break.

You are not my past,
you are my first love,
my truest of all,
a forever in my heart,
a light that will never fade,
no matter how far we part.
