💥 The burning Bush💥
✍️ By Dr. Rodas Tadese (Mary in the Old Testament pp 151-152)
The account of Moses and the burning bush, found in Exodus 3:1 5, holds profound theological significance. The narrative describes Moses’ encounter with a bush engulfed in flames yet not consumed — a prefiguration of the Incarnation and a symbol of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
👉 The profound insight of St. Yared, in his Degua and Zimare (Hymns), sheds a radiant light on the mystery of the burning bush as a Marian symbol. He writes with unparalleled reverence,
✍️ "Moses saw the bush, Mary, whom the Divine Fire did not consume; and Moses trembled, unable to comprehend the Divine Power within it. He who blessed Aaron's priesthood descended from heaven and came to save Adam."

St. Yared’s vision reveals Moses not merely witnessing a bush but encountering a prophecy of Mary, the Theotokos, who would bear the Divine within her yet remain untouched, just as the bush was unburned by the flame.

In his Zimare (Hymns), St. Yared continues to draw upon the mystery, adding,
✍️ "This fire flaming on it is our Savior; just as in the bush, fire was contained in the Virgin's womb; neither was Her womb burned, nor was Her virginity damaged."
The beauty of St. Yared’s words lies in their poetic reverence and theological depth, portraying the bush as a living symbol of Mary’s unblemished purity and the mystery of the Incarnation. In his inspired teachings,

👉 Abba Giorgis draws upon the symbol of the burning bush to reveal the divine mystery of the Incarnation. He venerates the Blessed Virgin Mary as the “spiritual bush” that withstands the holy fire, explaining,
✍️ "O spiritual bush that could withstand the fire; the fire was not extinguished, nor was the bush consumed; and this foretold incarnation, from You, of the Son without separation or alteration."

👉 In his Arganon (Hymns of Mary), he further reflects on this profound image, exclaiming,
✍️ "I call You the bush, for the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob was revealed in the bush to Moses, and sent him to the children of Israel to announce the tidings of their freedom. The Begotten Son of God, the incarnate Word, Who was born of You, sent the apostles to all the ends of the earth to preach to the whole world the freedom from evil’s slavery."

Here, he sees in Mary a new burning bush, through which God reveals His salvation, not only to one people but to all nations, sending forth the apostles as heralds of freedom and redemption

👉 The reflection by Abba Tsigie and Abba Gebre Mariam in their Mahlete Tsigie (Songs of Flower) unveils a beautiful and profound interpretation of the burning bush as a symbol of the Mother of God. They poetically write,
✍️ "When You, the burning bush, united with the Divine, O Mary, Your miracle was proclaimed in the Torah. O You, the green bush that the Chief Prophet saw, cover me under Your branches. May the fire of Your flower burn away my sinful thorns."

Their words capture both the reverence for Mary as the bearer of the Divine and a plea for her intercession to purify and protect, much like the sheltering branches of the miraculous bush.

And yet, this profound mystery is not distant or unreachable; it is as close as your next breath, as personal as your own prayer. Whether you are new to Marian theology or a lifelong devotee, this book will awaken in you a deeper love and devotion for the Holy Virgin. It will guide you to see her not just as a historical figure, but as a living presence in the Church, interceding for us and drawing us ever closer to her Son, Jesus Christ. The Spotless Bride of Lebanon (The birth of St Virgin Mary)
✍️ Dr Rodas Tadese
(Mary in the Old Testament)
In Song of Songs 4:7 Solomon’s exquisite words unveil a timeless mystery፡
✍️ “Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.”

These words, wrapped in poetic reverence, transcend earthly love and reveal a divine truth — the perfect purity and unparalleled grace of the Virgin Mary. As the New Eve, she was chosen by God to carry His Eternal Word, her beauty reflecting not only outward perfection but an inner holiness that shines through eternity.

Solomon’s words find their echo in Gabriel’s salutation: "Hail full of grace, the Lord is with you” (Luke 1:28), a greeting that proclaims Mary as the most exalted of all creation.

💥 “Thou Art All Fair, My Love; There Is No Spot in Thee”
Mary’s purity, untouched by sin, is a hymn of love composed by the Creator Himself. Every part of her — body, soul, and heart — was crafted in perfect harmony, preserved by God’s grace from the stain of sin.
Her heart, overflowing with love, reflected a humility so deep that it made her ready to embrace the divine call: “Behold the handmaid of the Lord; let it be unto me according to your word” (Luke 1:38).

Her soul, radiant and unblemished, became the sanctuary of grace, as foretold in Judith: “The Lord has blessed you in His grace more than all women” (Judith 13:18-19).

Her body, pure and holy, became the dwelling place of the Eternal Word, fulfilling Isaiah’s prophecy: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14). Mary stands as the New Eve, reversing the disobedience of the first Eve. While Eve succumbed to temptation, Mary’s faithful “yes” opened the door for humanity’s redemption. Her womb became the Holy of Holies, her heart the sanctuary of God’s love.

💥 “Come with Me from Lebanon, My Spouse”
👉 The invitation, “Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse,” speaks of Mary’s divine calling and elevation. Lebanon, known for its majestic and incorruptible cedars, symbolizes Mary’s purity and dignity.

The cedars of Lebanon remind us of Mary’s humble roots, as a descendant of David, chosen by God to fulfill His promise of salvation. Isaiah’s words echo in her lineage: “A shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a Branch will bear fruit” (Isaiah 11:12).

Mary is called “spouse” not in the earthly sense, but as the one uniquely united to God’s redemptive plan. From her humble beginnings, she was lifted to spiritual heights, reflecting the majesty of Lebanon’s soaring cedars.

💥 “Look from the Top of Amana, Shenir, and Hermon” The majestic mountains — Amana, Shenir, and Hermon — symbolize Mary’s exaltation in God’s plan. These peaks reflect her elevated role as the Mother of God, whose mission transcends all earthly boundaries.

John’s vision in Revelation 12:1 mirrors this exaltation: “A woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head.” Mary, crowned in heaven, became the Queen of all creation, the one who intercedes for humanity with a mother’s love.

Her journey, from a life of humility to the heights of heavenly glory, inspires believers to follow her path of faith, hope, and obedience.
