St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College Holds Fire Drill to Boost Awareness and Response Capacity
St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College conducted a comprehensive fire drill today aimed at raising awareness and enhancing the response capacity of staff in the event of a fire emergency.
The drill, which was held in collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Fire and Emergency Prevention and Rescue Agency, focused on ensuring preparedness and improving coordination between hospital personnel and emergency responders.
The simulation included a series of activities designed to familiarize staff with fire safety procedures, evacuation routes, and emergency protocols, ensuring that everyone at the hospital knows how to act swiftly and efficiently during a crisis.
“We believe that regular fire drills are crucial to ensuring the safety of both our patients and staff and Students,” said Dr. Bethlehem Tibebe the college safety coordinator. “This exercise is part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining a safe environment and improving our emergency response capabilities.”
The collaboration with the Addis Ababa City Fire and Emergency Prevention and Rescue Agency further strengthened the hospital’s efforts to foster a culture of safety, preparedness, and rapid response in the face of any potential fire-related incident.
The College plans to continue such drills periodically to enhance safety standards and keep all personnel well-prepared for any emergency.

"ማርች" የትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር ግንዛቤ ማስጨበጫ ወር

የአንጀት ካንሰር  በትንሹ አንጀት : በትልቁ አንጀት እንዲሁም በፊንጢጣ ላይ የሚከሰት የካንሰር ህመምን ያጠቃልላል።

በሀገራችን ያለበት ሁኔታ ምን ይመስላል?

በወንዶች ላይ እንደአዲስ ከሚታወቁ (newly diagnosed) የካንሰር አይነቶች መሀከል በአንደኛነት እንዲሁ በሴቶች ላይ ደሞ( ከጡትና ከ ማህጸን በር ካንሰር በመቀጠል) በሶስተኛ ደረጃነት ይገኛል።

በአጠቃላይም በሀገራችን በ2020  አውሮፓውያን አቆጣጠር 6050 የሚሆኑ አዳዲስ የትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር ታማሚዎች ተገኝተዋል። ይህም አሀዝ በሚቀጥሉት አመታት እንደሚጨምር ይጠበቃል።

ለትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር አጋላጭ ነገሮች ምንድናቸው?

1.እድሜ 
የአንጀት ካንሰር እድሜኣቸው ከ50 አመት በላይ የሆኑ ሰዎች ላይ የመከሰት እድሉ ከፍ ይላላል,ነገር ግን በአሁኑ ወቅት የአንጀት ካንሰር በወጣቶችና በጎልማሶች ላይ ቁጥሩ እየጨመረ ነው።

በሀገራችን በሚገኝ አንድ ሆስፒታል በተሰራ  ጥናትም 40% የሚሆኑት የትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር ታማሚዎች እድሜኣቸው ከ40 አመት በታች ነው ይህም ከሌሎች የአለም ሀገራት በጣም የተለየና የትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር በሀገራችንና ከሰሀራ በታች ባሉ ሀገራት በብዛት በጎልማሶች ላይ የመከሰት እድሉ ከፍ ያለ ነው።

2.የቤተሰብ ታሪክ
የትልቁ አንጀት ካንሰር ወይም የሌላ የሰውነት ክፍል ካንሰር በቤተሰብ ውስጥ  የተከሰተ ከሆነ ሌሎች የቤተሰብ ኣባላት ወደ ፊት የመያዝ እድላቸው ይጨምራል።

3.የቅድመ ካንሰርነት ደረጃ የደረሱ አንጀት ላይ የሚከሰቱ እባጮች (colonic polyps)

4.ለካንሰር አጋላጭ የሆኑ የዘረመል ለውጦች

5.ረጅም ጊዜ የቆዩ የአንጀት ቁስለት ህመሞች (inflamatory bowel disease)

6.የእንስሳት ተዋጽኦ የሆኑ ምግቦችን ማዘውተር

7.ሲጋራ ማጤስና አልኮል አብዝቶ መጠቀም

8.ከልክ ያለፈ የሰውነት ክብደት
9.አካላዊ እንቅስቃሴ አለማድረግ

ምልክቶቹስ?

የሰውነት ክብደት መቀነስ፣ የሆድ መነፋት፣ሰገራን እና ፈስን እንደተለመደው ሁኔታ ለማውጣት መቸገር፤ በፊንጢጣ በኩል ደም መፍሰስ፣ መጸዳጃ ቤት ከሄዱ በኋላ ያለመጨረስና  የማስማጥ ስሜት ስሜት፣ በተደጋጋሚ የደም ማነስ ህመም መከሰት፣ ደረጃው ከፍ እያለ ሲሄድም የአንጀት ሙሉ በሙሉ መዘጋትን ሊያመጣ ይችላል ህመሙ በፊንጢጣ አካባቢ ከሆነም ሰገራ ና ፈስ የመቆጣጠር አለመቻል::

ምን ይደረግ?

1.እንድሜው/ዋ ከሀምሳ አመት በላይ የሆነ ሰው ወይም  አጋላጭ ነገሮች ያሉት/ያላት አልያም ከላይ የተገለጹት ምልክቶች ካሉ አለመዘናጋትና በአፋጣኝ ወደሀኪም ቀርቦ መመርመር።

በሚያስቆጭ ሁኔታ አብዛኛዎቹ ታካሚዎቻችን የአንጀት ካንሰር ህመም ምልክቶች ከታዩ በኋላ ወደ ህክምና ዘግይተው እና ማዳን የማይቻልበት ሁኔታ ላይ ወደ ሀኪም ይመጣሉ። ከተለመዱት የመዘግየት ምክንያቶችም  አሜባ ወይም  የፊንጢጣ ኪንታሮት ተብለው በተደጋጋሚ መታከም አልያም እንደአማራጭ  የተለያዩ መፍትሄዎችን መፈለግ ነው።

2. መቀየር የሚችሉ አጋላጭ ባህሪያት ካሉ ማስተካከል።

3. ህመሙ ከታወቀ በኋላም ከሀኪም ጋር ተመካክሮ  በቀጣይ ህክምናዎችን በአግባቡ መከታተል።

ኮሌጁ በቅርቡ የጨረር ሕክምና ለመጀመር እየሠራ መሆኑን አስታወቀ: :
የቅዱስ ጳውሎስ ሆስፒታል ሚሊኒየም የሕክምና ኮሌጅ በቅርቡ የጨረር ሕክምና ለመጀመር የሚያስችለውን ዝግጅ እያከናወነ መሆኑን አስታወቀ፡፡

በየዓመቱ እስከ 10 ሺህ የሚደርሱ የካንሰር ታማሚዎችን እያስተናገደ የሚገኘው ሆስፒታሉ፤ የሕክምና ጥራት እና ዐቅም ማሳደግ የሚያስችል የካንሰር ማዕከል እየገነባ ነው፡፡

ማዕከሉ በሀገር ውስጥ የሚሰጡትን ጨምሮ፤ እስከ አሁን በሀገር ውስጥ የማይሰጡ እንደ መቅኔ ንቅለ ተከላ፣ የኒውክሌር ሜዲስን፣ የፔቲ ስካንና ፒቲስካን ሕክምናዎችን ይጀምራል ተብሏል፡፡

በሆስፒታሉ የካንሰር ስፔሻሊስትና የማዕከሉ አስተባባሪ ዶክተር አብዱ አደም እንዳሉት፤ ማዕከሉ አምስት የጨረር ሕክምና ክፍሎች እና 450 አልጋዎች ይኖሩታል፡፡

በተጨማሪም ዘመናዊ የቀዶ ሕክምና ክፍሎች፣ የጽኑ ህሙማን ክፍሎች እና በአንድ ጊዜ ለ50 ታካሚዎች የኬሞ ቴራፒ ሕክምና መስጠት የሚያስችሉ ክፍሎች አሉት ብለዋል፡፡

ዓለም አቀፍ ተሞክሮዎችን በመውሰድ የተገነባው ማዕከል ቀሪ ሥራ የማሽን ግዢና ገጠማ መሆኑን ገልጸው፤ ደረጃ በደረጃ የሚጀመሩ አገልግሎቶች አሉ ብለዋል፡፡

ከዚህ ውስጥ ለብዙ የካንሰር ታማሚዎች ፈተና የሆነው የጨረር ሕክምና በአንድ ወር ጊዜ ውስጥ እንደሚጀመር ገልጸው፤ አሁን ላይ ማሽኑን ከጤና ሚኒስቴር ጋር በመሆን የመግጠም እና የማስተካከል ሥራ እንደሚከናወን አስረድተዋል፡፡

ማዕከሉ ሙሉ በሙሉ ተጠናቅቆ ወደ አገልግሎት ሲገባም፤ የሆስፒታሉንም ሆነ እንደ ሀገር የሕክምና ጥራቱን የሚያሻሽል ዐቅም እንደሚፈጥር አመላክተዋል፡፡

St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College Celebrates Women’s Month with Historic All-Female Surgery Team
In a groundbreaking celebration of International Women’s Month in March 2025, St. Paul’s Hospital Millennium Medical College proudly hosted an all-female surgery team for a landmark surgical procedure. This extraordinary event highlighted the achievements and contributions of women in the medical field, showcasing the capabilities of women surgeons in what is traditionally a male-dominated industry. A total of 53 professional and supportive women participated in the event, working across four operating tables to perform 11 major surgeries. Their collective expertise and dedication ensured the success of the surgeries, reflecting the strength and skill of women in the medical profession.
The all-female surgical team was visited by Her Excellency Dr. Mekdes Daba, Minister of Health, who expressed her admiration for the team's professionalism and expertise. During her visit, Dr. Daba encouraged the team, offering words of support and inspiration. She emphasized the importance of empowering women in all sectors, particularly in leadership roles within healthcare.
"This is a testament to the strength, skill, and resilience of women in medicine," Dr. Mekedes Daba remarked. "It is crucial to continue breaking barriers and paving the way for future generations of female medical professionals."

የኩላሊት ህመም ምልክቶች
የኩላሊት ህመም ምልክቶች ከሰው ወደ ሰው ይለያያሉ። መሰረታዊ የህመሙ ዓይነት እና እንደ ክብደቱ የህመሙ ምልክት ይወሰናል። ምልክቶቹ ብዙውን ጊዜ ፣ ግልጽ ያልሆኑ እና አስደንጋጭ ያልሆኑ ናቸው። ስለሆነም በህመሙ የመጀመሪያዎቹ ደረጃዎች ህመም ስለመኖሩ ለመለየት አዳጋች ነው።
የኩላሊት ህመም በአብዛኛውን ጊዜ የሚታዩ ምልክቶች
• የፊት እብጠት
የፊት ፣ የሆድ እና የእግር እብጠት ብዙ ጊዜ የኩላሊት ህመም ማሳያ ነው። በኩላሊት ህመም ምክንያት የሚከሰት እብጠት አንድ ባህሪይ በመጀመሪያ ከዐይን ሽፋኖቹ በታች የሚስተዋል መሆኑ ነው ፡፡ ይህም በማለዳ በጣም ጎልቶ ይታያል፡፡ ነገር ግን እብጠት የግድ የኩላሊት መጎሳቆልን እንደማያመለክት ልብ ልንለው ይገባል። በተወሰኑ የኩላሊት ህመሞች ውስጥ መደበኛ የኩላሊት ሥራ ቢኖርም እብጠት ይከሰታል (ለምሳሌ ኔፍሮቲክ ሲንድሮም)። ከዚህም ጎን ለጎን መረዳት የሚያስፈልገው ከባድ ህመም ቢከሰትም በአንዳንድ ታካሚዎች ላይ እብጠት ላይታይ እንደሚችል ነው።
• የምግብ ፍላጎት ማጣት ፣ ማቅለሽለሽ ፣ ማስመለስ
የምግብ ፍላጎት ማጣት ፣ በአፍ ውስጥ ያልተለመደ ጣዕምና የምግብ መመገብ ደካማነት የኩላሊት ችግር ያለባቸው ሰዎች የሚያጋጥማቸው የተለመዱ ችግሮች ናቸው። የከፋ የኩላሊት ድክመት በሚኖርበት ጊዜ የማቅለሽለሽ ፣ ማስመልስ እና የአእምሮ ህመም የሚያስከትሉ መርዛማ ንጥረነገሮች መጠን እየጨመረ ይሄዳል።
• ከፍተኛ የደም ግፊት
የኩላሊት ችግር ያለባቸው ታካሚዎች ብዙውን ጊዜ የደም ግፊት ይኖራቸዋል። የደም ግፊት ችግር በወጣትነት ዕድሜ (ከ 30 ዓመት በታች) ከተገኘ ወይም በምርመራው ወቅት የደም ግፊት በጣም ከፍተኛ ከሆነ ምክንያቱ የኩላሊት በሽታ ሊሆን እንደሚችል መጠርጠር ያስፈልጋል።
• የደም ማነስ እና ድክመት
ቶሎ መድከም ፣ ማተኮር አለመቻል እና የቆዳ መገርጣት የደም ማነስ ችግር ያለበት ሰው የተለመዱ ምልክቶች ናቸው። አንዳንድ ጊዜ ሥር የሰደደ የኩላሊት መድከም የመጀመሪያ ደረጃዎች ላይ አንድ ሰው የሚያሳያቸው ብቸኛ ምልክቶች ሊሆኑ ይችላሉ። የደም ማነስ ያለበት ሰው በመደበኛ ህክምና በተለምዶ በሚሰጡ መድኃቶች ካልዳነ፣ የኩላሊት ህመም እንዳለበት መጠርጠር ያስፈልጋል።
ከዚህም ተጨማሪ ምልክቶች -ዝቅተኛ የጀርባ ህመም ፣ አጠቃላይ የሰውነት ህመም ፣ እና የእግር ማሳከክ እና ህመም በኩላሊት ህመም ውስጥ ተደጋጋሚ የሚታዩ ምልክቶች ናቸው። በደንብ አለማደግ ፣የቁመት ማጠር እና የግር አጥንት ቀጥ አለማለት በልጆች ላይ የኩላሊት ህመም የሚያሳይ ነው።
የተለመዱ ምልክቶች
1. በሽንት መጠን መቀነስ ፣ በተለያዩ የኩላሊት ህመሞች ውስጥ በጣም የተለመደ ነው።
2. ሽንት በሚወገድበት ወቅት የሚያቃጥል ስሜት ፣ በተከታታይ መሽናት (ያልተለመደ ድግግሞሽ) እንዲሁም ደም ወይም መግል በሽንት ውስጥ ማየት የሽንት ቧንቧ ህመም የሚያሳዩ ምልክቶች ናቸው።
3. የሽንት ፍሰት መዘጋት ሽንትነn ለማስተላለፍ ችግር ያስከትላል።
ምንም እንኳን አንድ ሰው ከላይ ከተዘረዘሩት ምልክቶች መካከል የተወሰኑት ሊያሳይ ቢችልም የግድ ሰውዬው በኩላሊት ህመም ተይዟል ማለት ግን አይደለም። ሆኖም እንደዚህ አይነት ምልክቶች ባሉበት ሁኔታ ሀኪምን ማማከር እና የኩላሊት ህመም እና ሌሎች ህመሞች መኖር ወይም አለመኖራቸውን በደም እና በሽንት ናሙና ምርመራዎች ማረጋገጥ የግድ ይላል።

SPHMMC IRB/IRERC Joint Meeting:
On March 3, 2025, the SPHMMC Institutional Research Ethics Review Committee (IRERC) had a joint meeting comprising past, departing, and new members. The meeting's primary objectives were to evaluate the SPHMMC-IRB journey, exchange experiences among IRB members, and honor departing and past members. Founded in 2015, SPHMMC-IRB underwent a reorganization in 2019. During the establishment, policies and guidelines were developed. Subsequently, 27 SOPs were approved in 2021, and the Institutional Research Ethics Review Committee (IRERC) was recognized as “level A” by the Ministry of Education Ethiopia under the national research ethics committee in April 2024. The journey of the SPHMMC-IRB has been marked by significant milestones and collaborative efforts that underscore its commitment to ethical research practices. Since its establishment in 2015 and subsequent restructuring in 2019, the committee has developed comprehensive guidelines and policies and fostered a culture of experience sharing among its members, enhancing the collective expertise within the group. The development of 27 standard operating procedures in 2021 stands as a testament to their dedication to maintaining high standards in research ethics. Moreover, the recognition as a “level A” Institutional Research Ethics Review Committee further solidifies SPHMMC-IRB's pivotal role in safeguarding ethical integrity within research endeavors. As former members are honored for their contributions, it becomes clear that this evolution is not just about institutional growth but also about cultivating a legacy of ethical vigilance that will guide future researchers. The meeting also aimed to foster collaboration and encourage ongoing dialogue among all members, ensuring that the valuable insights gained from past experiences are utilized to enhance future research ethics practices. By celebrating the contributions of outgoing members, the committee hopes to inspire a renewed commitment to ethical standards in research and to support the continuous development of the institution's ethical framework. To elevate the research ethical standard and transparency, the IRERC has been restructured as an independent office as of March 1, 2025.

The research directorate continues its unwavering support and wishes the IRERC success.
