SPHMMC Hosts Conference on Precision Cancer Care in Ethiopia

St.Paul's Hospital Millennium Medical College (SPHMMC) hosted its first Adult Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship Conference today, focusing on “Leapfrogging to Precision: Genomics for Cancer Care in Ethiopia.” The conference featured local and international experts discussing the critical role of molecular diagnostics in revolutionizing cancer care.

Key takeaways included the ability of molecular diagnostics to personalize treatment, improve outcomes, and pave the way for innovative therapies like immunotherapy and CAR-T cell treatments. Experts also highlighted challenges such as limited access to technology, affordability, and the need for better infrastructure and trained professionals.

Despite these challenges, speakers emphasized Ethiopia’s potential to lead the precision medicine movement in East Africa with the right investments in training and partnerships.

The event was supported by SPHMMC’s CPID, P2P, and Retina Pharmaceutical.
