Democrats just voted to shut the government down at midnight. If they were serious about avoiding a shutdown, they would have supported the House-passed funding bill or backed my Eliminate Shutdowns Act last night.
There were two clear opportunities to keep the government open — Democrats rejected both. As I said in my floor speech last night, this shutdown was completely avoidable.
