It could have been worse
Mulla Nasruddin constantly irritated his friends with his eternal optimism. No matter how bad the situation, he would always say, “It could have been worse.”
To cure him of this annoying habit, his friends decided to invent a situation so completely black, so dreadful, that even Nasruddin could find no hope in it. Approaching him at the club bar one day, one of them said, “Mulla, Did you hear what happened to George? He came home last night, found his wife in bed with another man, shot them both, then turned the gun on himself!”
“Terrible,” said the Mulla “But it could have been worse.”
“How in hell,” asked his dumbfounded friend, “could it possibly have been worse?” “Well,” said Nasruddin, “IF IT HAD HAPPENED THE NIGHT BEFORE! I WOULD BE DEAD NOW.”

How to be eternally 'Happy'
Was hoping to write this down for long, finally sharing✍️
Few observations regarding some growing trends:
- Everything around us is being made to look like working in binaries- either being positive or negative, being happy or unhappy, winning or losing.
- While one of them is almost invariably glorified, the other is vilified. Eg: Happiness as a "goal" has become way overrated I feel. Same is with "staying positive" all the time.
- There is a plethora of motivational posts/ quotes, anecdotes going around urging you to be happy, be positive, be a winner.
Now, from the heart of hearts, think to yourself whether life lies in the binaries or across whole of the spectrum. Rarely do we come across anything that tells us to experience where we are right now. No! We are told to aim for the end points...and since we are never really at one of the end points, a conflict is created for us to reach there. Therein lies the catch. Then we starting thinking that we are highly insufficient, and start looking for more "motivation" to help us reach the end, and get stuck in this unending loop.
If you are feeling happy, be happy. Go to the height of it. If you are feeling unhappy, be unhappy. Go to the depth of it. Experience it! If you are feeling both, be both. But if you are looking for only happiness, sadness is bound to come in sometimes... for sadness is not the opposite of happiness, but the mere absence of it; like a wave in the ocean- there cannot be a crest without a trough somewhere!
Moral of story: Running towards or away from the ends puts us in a perpetual conflict with our natural selves. May be we can cherish the now, accept it, soak it all in, experience it to the fullest; be it being happy or unhappy, positive or negative- in reality though we may be somewhere in between, always!
Probably, even if for few moments, just BE what you are, and feel the difference. Accept the perfections and imperfections alike...because again, they make us, us.

P.S. This is not meant to be a motivational post. As one of my friends here says, if you got motivated, it's not my fault 😁
P.P.S. I hope the title wasn't a mere clickbait. It served some purpose.

Feel Good Index
The final month is once again upon us- probably the most important period in any aspirant's life!
As we gear up the revisions for those final, all-important 2/4 hours, here's a small piece of experience:
One thing that probably sets apart a success or failure in prelims is how you feel that day. If it's all feel-good, you are sailing through. Even while you are solving the question paper, there's this ecstatic feel...and you somehow know you are sailing through! [I am sure many will relate to this 😑]
So let's make the remaining time count, so that we feel good on the D-day.
After all, "मौत का पैगाम" aka Admit Card should also not be far away.
P.S. I know from title you started reading this just to know about a new index which NITI Aayog or some random body has come up with!
Take good care. Until next time...
