"The mythology, rituals, meditations, and practices used in Tantric worship of the goddess Kali in the tradition of Kashmiri Shaivism

• Reveals the practices of Vamachara, known as the Left-hand Path but more accurately translated as the Path of Shakti
• Includes a Kali ritual from the Nirrutara Tantra, translated here for the first time
• Presents devotional chants, meditations, and mudras specific to Tantric worship of Kali

According to traditions going back to pre-Vedic times, Kali sprang from the third eye of the Goddess Durga as a destructive and terrifying manifestation of feminine power sent to lay waste to the forces of evil. Throughout India to this day, Kali is worshipped as the destroyer of bondage, capable of liberating her devotee from all rules and subjugation.

In Tantric Kali, Daniel Odier presents the mythology, practices, and rituals of Kali worship in the Tantric Kaula tradition within Kashmiri Shaivism. He reveals the practices of Vamachara, commonly known as the Left-hand Path but more accurately translated as the Path of Shakti. In this tradition the body itself is Kali’s temple, and it is therefore unnecessary to reject or deny the body to know union with the divine. Instead, nothing is regarded as pure or impure and there is complete freedom from rules. Focused on working directly with forbidden emotions and behaviors, this path allows the seeker to transcend obstacles to liberation through sexual union. According to the Kaula Upanishad, “In your behavior do the opposite to what the norms dictate but remain in consciousness.” This is the essence of Tantra. Kali is absolute reality: manifested as woman intoxicated by desire, she frees the tantric practitioner from all desire except union with the divine.

The author includes an evocative ritual from the Nirrutara Tantra--never before translated into any Western language--containing devotions to the 64 yoginis according to Matsyendranath, founder of the Kaula path. Offering devotional chants, meditations, and mudras specific to Tantric worship of Kali, this empowering book provides practices and teachings for those on the Tantric path to liberation."

Fasting the Mind: Spiritual Exercises for Psychic Detox
by Jason Gregory
👍124👎2
"Stop planning, stop comparing, stop competing, stop thinking, and just breathe deeply for a minute . . . Our undivided attention is something we are rarely able to give for reasons ranging from digital overload to the cultural conditioning of equating busyness with purpose. Just as you might choose a fast from eating to detoxify the body, the best way to overcome this modern mental overload is to periodically fast the mind.

Drawing on the spiritual philosophies and meditative practices of classical yoga, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Taoism, Jason Gregory explains how fasting the mind directly impacts your habits and way of being in the world to create peace and calmness in your life as well as allow you to build a firm psychological defense against the increasing bombardment of distractions in our world. Applying psychology and cognitive science to samsara--the cycle of suffering created by our attachment to the impermanent--he explains how overreliance on the rational mind causes imbalances in the autonomic nervous system and suppresses our natural spontaneity, feelings, and intuition. When we are unable to relax the mind deeply, we enter a destabilizing state of stress and anxiety and are unable to liberate the true Self from the impermanence and limitations of the material world. Sharing Zen, Taoist, and Vedic practices to help you empty your mind and gradually restore your natural rhythms, the author shows how to give the mind time to truly relax from stimulation so it can repair itself and come back into equilibrium. He details simple meditation practices that are easy to implement in daily life, such as open-awareness meditation and contemplation of Zen koans, as well as the advanced techniques of Vipassana, a Theravadic Buddhist discipline centered on seclusion from all worldly stimuli. He also offers methods for digital detox and ensuring a good night’s sleep, a major support for healing cognitive impairment and restoring a state of equanimity.

By fasting the mind we strip away the distractions and stresses of modern life and return to our original nature as it exists deep within. We become more consciously awake in every moment, allowing us to feel the real beauty of the world and, in turn, to live life more fully, authentically, and peacefully."

In this small but compact volume internationally renowned divine proportion supersleuth Dr Olsen unravels perhaps the greatest mystery of all time, a code that seems to underly life, the universe and everything, a pattern we instinctively recognise as beautiful, and which nature herself uses at every scale. Kautilyas Arthashastra
by Jaico Publications
9
Kautilya's Arthashastra is a book about economics written by Kautilya. The word (No Suggestions) originates from a primeval Indian dissertation that discussed how the economy and military affairs of a state should function. The dissertation was written in Sanskrit by Chanakya, the teacher to the founder of the Mauryan Empire. The book talks about the science of amassing wealth. The author emphasizes that the king should offer no reason for his actions and should go to any extent to attain wealth. The subjects would be prone to punishments unlike the king.

Kautilya was cunning and shrewd. He offered checks for the king on how to see what the sons were plotting against the king. He also offered advice to the sons on how to snatch the king's rule. He felt that it was almost impossible to detect if an official was dishonest, just like how one does not know how much water a fish drinks.

He offered the seven tips for a successful and committed business. He says that the CEO has to guide and direct the team. The competent and resourceful manager binds the team together. You have to know how your market operates and from where you can generate more revenue. Your nucleus or your office should be a centralized place from where you assimilate ideas, strategize and control all your operations. You need to manage your treasury efficiently. Lastly, you need a strong companion that you can depend on, when there is trouble in your business. The first edition of Kautilya's Arthashastra, was published by Jaico Publishing House in 2009 and is available in paperback.

About the Author

Kautilya or Chanakya was an Indian philosopher, teacher and advisor. He aided Chandragupta Maurya in founding the massive Mauryan Empire. He was born in Taxila, South India. He is the founder of political science and economics in India. He encouraged international trade and helped rulers make their visions a reality. He felt that the state should have total control over land, water and mining. He strongly recommended keeping a check on government functions by keeping an eye on money transactions. His age old policies seem to ring true today too and are followed by many people.

Some Saiva and Sakta texts explain the activity of different modes of the supreme Lord's divine saktis with the help of the diagram of two triangles juxtaposed one over the other, with their vertices facing upwards and downwards respectively. The upward pointing triangle is called the urdhvatrikona, and symbolizes the supreme Lord in His transcendent form: anuttara Siva, the highest tattva, occupies the apex position, while His cit and änanda saktis are said to exist and operate respectively from the left and right corners of the base of the triangle, to bring out His transcendent nature.
🙏51
The second triangle, called the adhahtrikona, its vertex pointing downwards, symbolizes the group of three saktis, iccha, jñana and kriyā, which play crucial roles in the supreme Lord's manifestation as the world. It is held that iccha and jñanasaktis operate from the left and right corners at the top of their triangle, while kriya sakti is said to operate on the downward-pointing vertex of the inverted triangle to fulfil the task of visarga (lit. throwing out), the emergence of the tathvas (different levels of existence) comprising the world creation. The two triangles placed one over the other make a six-corned figure (satkona) of saktis, " considered by many spiritual seekers to be holy and auspicious, which is therefore used in certain rituals for their spiritual upliftment

Triangle No. I

This triangle in the diagram represents the Pará Caitanya or the Para Samvid in transcendent form (visvottirnarüpa). The Pará Caitanya, also called the Anuttara Siva possessing a form, is represented by the vertex in this triangle. The mode of His divine Sakti operating as the cit sakti - symbolised by the vowel letter 'a'-is shown in this diagram by the left side base angle. The divine Sakti functioning as the ananda-śakti- symbolised by the vowel letter a- is represented in the above diagram by the right side base
angle.

The vowel letter 'a' here is held constituted by joining together of two vowel letters 'a' and 'a' symbolising the Anuttara Siva in His self-created reduplicated forms facing each other (abhimukha). This act of voluntary re-duplication is considered a pre-requisite for His self-manifestation as the multiplicity of the world. Kashmiri Saivacaryas hold that there cannot be manifestation of the multiplicity directly from the non-dual one.

Triangle No. II

This triangle shows the Parásamvid or Anuttara Siva in immanent form (visvâtmaka svarüpa).
The mode of His divine Sakti operating as iccha sakti is symbolised by the vowel letter i', shown in the diagram by the left side
base angle.

The mode of His divine Sakti operating as unmeșa or jñanasakti symbolised by vowel letter 'u- is indicated in the diagram by the right side base angle. The act of unmesa (self-revelation as the multiplicity) also implies kriyá, therefore the kriyā śakti (one of the five modes of functioning of the divine Sakti) has not been shown explicitly in the diagram. In fact the kriyā šakti is held to be identical with 'armi', symbolised by the vowel letter '', which is said to be the resting place (visrânti) for unmesa.
The inverted vertex in this triangle represents the point of 'throwing out' (visarga) of different levels of creation (tattvas), symbolised by consonant letters. The vowel letter ' symbolises this point, also called yoni (lit. the source), denoted by two vertically placed dots).

It is said that the yoni serves as the 'opening' for the emergence of tattvas, beginning with máya down to prthv, symbolised by nine groups of consonant tattvas, technically called mätrkā varņas. These letters also symbolise modes of Sakti underlying the tattvas.
