🇦🇺🇺🇸 Australia's PM arrives in US to pitch rare earths deal to Trump

Australia is eager to step in to address the vulnerabilities the US itself created by targeting Chinese tech with tariffs and export restrictions.

👉 Australia’s PM Anthony Albanese will meet Trump, hoping to land a $1.2 billion critical minerals deal and lock in assurances about the AUKUS pact, under which the US is to supply Australia with nuclear submarines.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has suggested a “united front” is forming with allies, but beneath the unity talk is quiet desperation.

📊 China supplies over two-thirds of the world’s rare earths, and its new export rules — covering both materials and processing tech — have the US scrambling for alternatives.

Australia’s Ambassador to Washington Kevin Rudd emphasized that the country “equals the periodic table,” with mining capabilities that could meet 30–40 of the US’s 50 designated critical minerals.

🚨🇦🇲 Armenia’s Gyumri mayor detained in bribery probe

The mayor of Armenia’s second-largest city, Gyumri, Vardan Gukasyan, has been detained along with seven municipal officials.

On Monday morning, dozens of officers from the National Security Service and the Armenian Investigative Committee stormed the city hall, isolated the mayor, and carried out investigative actions.

The Anti-Corruption Committee reported that criminal cases were opened over the solicitation and receipt of bribes by Vardan Gukasyan and the city’s chief architect, Henrik Gasparyan, allegedly agreed not to demolish an illegal building in exchange for $10,000.

According to Sputnik, the case involves businessman Sevak Gomtsyan, owner of the Fabrika chain of stores.

👉As for Gukasyan, he is a longtime opposition politician who previously served as mayor before Pashinyan’s rise to power, and was reelected again in April 2025.

👉At a briefing following his election, Gukasyan stated that he supports a Union State between Armenia and Russia, similar to the model with Belarus, in order to safeguard his country’s sovereignty.

👉This won him no favors with Armenia’s pro-Western authorities, with PM Pashinyan lashed out at the mayor, saying that he should be “thrown out” of the political and public arena.

🗣🇪🇺 EU has no grounds to exert excessive pressure on Iran – Kremlin

Russia supports negotiations on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and Europe's unconstructive position complicates the situation, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

💬 "The unconstructive position of the Europeans, of course, leads to the fact that it is becoming even more difficult day by day. We believe that it is necessary to negotiate. Of course, there are no grounds for exerting excessive pressure on Iran, a sovereign country, in this way," Peskov said, answering the question whether the West's position would cause a new escalation towards Iran.

Russia is ready to expand cooperation with Iran in all areas, and the current relations are developing dynamically, Peskov added.
